Homebrew Need help to configure my Wii for homebrew.

Hi good people! Would you please help a newbie out?

Just so you know what you're dealing with; My old Wii setup is as follows:
System menu is 3.4u and D2B chip where the Wiikey is installed (unknown firmware).

I haven't used my wii for a long time because I accidentally updated the system menu to 3.4u through a game I played and then some of my burned games stopped working (paper mario and resident evil 4).
I've read loads of stuff about homebrew but I have yet to understand what good my wiikey is, if I use Homebrew. Just to make things clear, what I need help with, is what I should do/not do with my wii to make it run backup games again.

Sorry, but I don't know anything about modchips and you dont even need them these days. I don't know if its possible to remove it, then do a HARD reset (http://www.ehow.com/how_6786474_hard-reset-wii.html) but I don't know if it will delete everything, it should though, update to 4.3 and hack it properly using this guide (http://www.gamerheist.com/2013/07/learn-to-hack-your-wii.html). This is what I would do atleast. Then just re-download the games and put them on a USB Device or burn them properly.
