hello good day
i would like to ask some question and hopefully someone can help me

i have a ps3 slim 320gb (just purchase online)
condition: USED
model: CECH 2512B

first im not sure if its already Jailbreak or not but i think it is..

my system information says
"version 4.76"

but it has multiman installed on it
"multiman version 4.76"

and i can play download games (internal or using external hdd) via multiman (so i think my ps3 is jailbreak already)

my question are

is my ps3 jailbreak or not?

second if its jailbreak like i think it is , is there a way to update it to the latest CFW like 4.8x?
(cause i want to update it to the latest CFW in order for me to play latest games)

and if someone good enough to help me update my ps3 to latest CFW it would be great.
just please make it as simple as possible..

sorry im noob,
dont have any experience in modding or jailbreaking,
it just happen i bought this ps3 and i just want it to update to latest CFW inorder for me to play latest games like persona 5.

any help would be appreciated thank you very much..

i already search and watch videos how to update but im very confused, i see many kind of CFW like like rebug, regerro etc and some articles says if it is jailbroken
the system information must says "version 4.xx rebug/regerror or xxxxxx" and mine was only "version 4.76" nothing more thats why im very confused...

and forgive me for asking such favor
thank you..

Hi,

Multiman is an unofficial app (homebrew), so if you're able to launch it and play games through it successfully, then yes your PS3 is modded/jailbroken.

It's fairly straightforward and a no-brainer to get updated to latest firmware on CFW. Head over to the official rebug website and download the latest 4.81.2-REX PUP file and copy it to a USB at /PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP (create the folders if they're not already on there). Then you'll want to insert the USB into your PS3 and go to 'update via storage media' in the update option of the XMB to start installing it. Just make sure you don't have a disc inserted or have an ISO (virtual PS3 disc) mounted, otherwise there's the possibility it will find and use the (official firmware!) update file on the disc instead. I also recommend disconnecting the PS3 from the internet so you don't run the risk of downloading the latest official firmware from Sony's servers by accident either. (But it really shouldn't if you opted to install via storage)

It should then copy the update to the system and install the latest firmware version with Rebug CFW you downloaded.
I wouldn't worry too much if you don't see "4.81 rebug" or anything in your system version after installing this; I never see it either. So long as you see the "REBUG" logo on bootup and a "webMAN games" option in the games column then you definitely have Rebug installed.

@Voxel sir thanks for the reply..
sorry for asking such stupid questions...
can you help me more and answer some of my question again for clarification purposes..

this is the site our talking about?

i need to download latest 4.81.2-REX PUP?
Rebug 4.81.2 D-REX EDITION or Rebug 4.81.2 D-REX EDITION?
(which is which ? one is D-REX one is RED only)

Rebug 4.81.2 D-REX EDITION
(REBUG_4.81.2_D_REX_PS3UPDAT.PUP)

"USB at /PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP"

then

update via storage media

(ill make sure to remove the Disc or game)

but i have a question.. i have downloaded games on the internal hdd which i play via multiman of my ps3 320gb
will they ok? or do i need to delete them?

second after i installed the update will my multiman version 4.76 will be gone?
then what things i need to do after inorder for me to enable to play games again via internal hdd or external hdd..

lastly

currently i have 4.76 version all i need to do is follow the above steps?
to straight things up i would like to clarify that all i need to do is update via storage then thats it?

or do i need to downgrade first to 3.55 and update again and DUMP,NUMP or what they call..etc?

sorry again and thank you very much for your help..
im very thankful!!

rex is what u want unless on dex firmware. your games will be fine. you'll need to update multiman which is as easy as installing a pkg. that's it. no need to downgrade, no.

you're probably on cex firmware then. the system won't allow you to install the wrong firmware anyway. it will say something about it being incompatible.

@godreborn sir i think im ready to update my ps3 to the latest cfw now.. i just want to ask some questions just to make sure..

i learn that my cfw is ferrox i think since when i open my ps3 ferrox logo appears

question one is it okay for me to just update directly update from 4.76 ferrox to "rebug 4.81.2 REX"
no need to downgrade?
no need to do anything else B4 UPDATING?

all i need to do is download the REBUG 4.81.2 REX then rename it to "PS3UPDAT.PUP? is this right?

then put it in a folder that would like this "USB at /PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP"

then i go to XMB settings system update then update via media storage?
(i will remove my disc game and unplug my external hdd that contains games)

then just ok ok ok then let it install the update..

then after i updated to 4.81.2 rebug install a multiman right?

and if things go well it should enable me to play games again via multiman..

just please correct me if im wrong or if i miss anything up please kindly correct me..

my question are ..
do i need to uninstall the multiman 4.76 first b4 i update to 4.81 CFW ?
i have downloaded games in my internal hdd which i can play via multiman will they affect the CFW update?
do i need to delete them or they are good..?

and i u have any tips for more secure update or persecution please let me know..
again thank you very much for your help

you've got it. it's fine to update to rebug from ferrox. installing mm 4.81 will install over the previous install, so there's no need to uninstall the previous version first. and, your games will be fine. updating cfw is just like updating ofw, just with a few precautions (mostly in the recovery menu). downgrading requires you to qa flag which you can do on rebug within rebug toolbox.

you can find the latest mm on brewology . download it, place it on the root of your flash drive, go to install packages, select the package, and you're done.

base is the full multiman, update is for when you're updating from one multiman to another, and stealth is to hide multiman from sony. update is the one you want. I don't have any experience with stealth. you don't need to uninstall multiman to update. if you do, you'll have to install the full update.

edit: btw, you can update multiman from within multiman. it's one of the options.

yes, you need an internet connection. it's on the far left tier in multiman. it's at the top I believe of that tier. it will download the update version. the full version contains everything while the update only contains things that have been updated.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
