So, at the end of 2006 I bought my first 360. It lasted me many years, but 20GB wasn't much to work with.

So a month ago I bought a 250GB Kinect bundle, and was wondering if I could hack my old system.

I asked a friend and discovered that:
- have the very first model, no HDMI.
-I'm running the latest XBox Dashboard (I can give the numbers if you need)

It's been in for repair back in 2007 once for RROD, and 2008 for a video issue.

Can I hack/mod/JTAG my system? And how would I go about doing so?

I have absolutely no prior knowledge on this subject, so I'm quite noob. The lack of stickies didn't help. :/

Thank you for you time.

Do you have a 175W power supply or a 203W power supply.

If it is a 203W the only thing you could do is a DVD drive hack.
If it's a 175W you can Reset Glitch hack it giving you the capabilities of a jTAG.

If you want to hack your DVD drive you'll have to hook it up to your PC (the drive) and flash it.

Now this depends on your drive revision.
The basic tools you need is a VIA PCI sata card or a X360 USB and optional but recommended a CK3i (and depending on your DVD drive) a Probe.

You'll need to download Jungleflasher in order to flash your drive to the latest hacked firmware.

Is the latest firmware hackable?

203W. It's the very first model.

How do I DVD drive hack?
Actually, you may have an Opus motherboard since your 360 was repaired in 2008. If so, you can do the Reset Glitch Hack, which allows unsigned code, however you can't play on LIVE. Give me a minute, I'll post a picture so you can tell whether you have one or not.

Every drive from a 360 Phat is hackable.
Nothing stops it from being locked out of write mode.

If you want I could flash it for you.
Only requirements are that you need to send me your DVD drive or your 360.
After I flashed and tested it I will send you a PM with the costs of returning the 360/DVD drive.

If you sent it in for repair you should still have your original PSU as you are instructed not to send that in. They may have sent you an Opus board and you would still have the original 203w PSU. The 203w PSU will work for all phat models so there would be no need to upgrade it too. Check the diagram and compare that to the place you plug in the PSU to the 360. If it has the "nob" in the middle (prevents lower wattage PSUs from plugging into it), it is a xenon motherboard. If not then it is an opus.

Checking the power supply is useless, you have to check the shape of the power connector on the Xbox 360 console. 203W power supply will work on 175W and 150W system. When the console is repaired only the console is sent in. Power stickers are not always changed.

I also believe lite-on dvd drive and opus consoles came out around 2008, so I would assume you have a ben-Q drive or older and a Xenon console. If so you will not need a probe.

Check the JungleFlasher Tutorial for drive flashing

It's got the nob. So I assume Xenon?

Are there instructions for the DVD flashing and whatnot?

Or what's the ODDE? I should add I don't have much of a budget to work with...

Yep you got a Xenon.

An ODDE will set you back ~100 bucks.
It's not bannable from Live as of today.

There are instructions for flashing a drive all over the internet.
Just crack open your case and identify your DVD drive.

Jungle flasher comes with a pdf tutorial on how to flash every drive and what you need for it.

edit:
I'm still willing to flash the drive for "free" for you.
It's entirely up to you.

Then an ODDE is out of the question. Most are pretty expensive. Go with the jungle flasher tutorial. Remember all mods to the 360 require to disassemble it, so you may want to look that up as well.

Thank you. I assume I can find the guide from their homepage?

Cocks. I had no idea disassembly is a must.

I'll look around. Any guides you recommend?

EDIT: I found this:
http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/repair/Xbox-360-Disassembly.htm

Do I need to buy the dissasembally kit? I was thinking of just improvising.

OH HEY! Cool, I didn't know I had a Jasper. So it's Jtag'able... that's pretty cool. ^_^

I'd still rather get an ODDE, it sound easier. Just a little longer until I'm not broke lol... Thanks for all your info Fudge and DinohScene. My lurking is always worthwhile when you're around. ;)
