They have yet to make an even halfway decent star trek game.

Hush, you. The Original is a television sci-fi classic and TNG will likely go down in history as one of the most accessible, entertaining sci-fi series... ever.

Side note: G6 Lite works fine with Safe Mode and Trim. I was pleasantly surprised to hear Shatner in the opening FMV, it's good to see Bethseda went the extra mile there. Off to play now~

Elite Force 2 was inferior to Elite Force 1 but still an okay game. But you people are clearly young if you have never played a good Star Trek game. Their are two Star Trek games that are in fact not only good Star Trek games but they are two of the best adventure games ever made.

Star Trek: 25th Anniversary
Star Trek: Judgment Rites

A third that's plenty decent but not as good

Star Trek The Next Generation: A Final Unity

(age is relative) Ah back in the day. I was like 6 or 7 when i played 25th anniversary and i think i was around 11 when I found Walmart (I believe) was selling off the Judgement Rites collector edition. I got Final Unity not long after that i think.. been so long since there's ever been a really decent star trek game i'd want to play.

I loved Interplay's rendition of the TOS and whoever it was that did Final Unity. To me the games were the best Adventure Star Trek games ever made. Although i think Final Unity's method of fighting was kinda.. crappy. The TOS games were more flightsimish (old skool that is.)

I used to play those all the time.. I still have original cds for all 3 of them (talky versions.) I really wish they would make a "good" adventure game based from all the series but they just keep making these crap strategy element games. This really makes controling and plots fairly poor.

I'll play this, but I won't really be happy until they make the Kirk Simulator, complete with offduty hijinks with Yeoman Rand.

I've got a 14 year old with that attitude for all things Star Trek. I gave up trying to get him to "see the light" about the original series. To him, its just stupid looking and old. Its not anime, and there's no special effects worth a damn, so to him its pointless.

I guess I felt the same way about the really old Flash Gordon shows and sci-fi B-movies when I was my kid's age ... my dad would go on and on about walking to the theatre on Saturdays to pay a nickel and watch Flash Gordon. yawn.

I just can't wait till my boy's 35 or 40 and trying to convince his kid that Full Metal Alchemist is the bomb. I'm gonna LMAO when my grandson tells him that's for old farts.

Sounds like you never watched Wrath of Khan. Or First Contact. Or The Voyage Home. Or the original series or the Next Generation.
People younger than age 25 shouldn't be making comments like that about Star Trek...

Therefore I am qualified to make comments about Star Trek

It's all a matter of perspective I think. I remember staying up until 10 O'Clock to watch The Original Star Trek when I was 8 years old against my mothers best wishes. For it's time it was definitely the coolest thing on TV. We (kids) were all hyped up about the apollo space program at the time so star trek was a natural extension of our imaginations.

I think games based on star trek are missing the substance of the original star trek and perhaps that's why the games seem lacking. Each Star Trek had a moral or lesson that represented what life could be in some future utopian society and many of the 'lessons' shadowed current or historical events. The games have some of the humor and an overabundance of technical information but none of the substance that was the best part of the show.

They are doing a CGI makeover of the original series with flashy special effects. Maybe you can get him into that. Should be on TV pretty soon. Don't worry though they aren't going to pull a George Lucas on it. The original un modified episodes are still going to be widely distributed and any changes to the CGI makeovers is not going to be considered cannon.

[edit]

Actually has been on since September.

This is what makes the two TOS games I listed so great. They are episodic and many episodes are written by original series writers and the original series cast provided the voices for the CD versions. A few original series guest stars return as well. If you want to play a Star Trek game that keeps to the spirit of the original series those two are HIGHLY recommended.

Few problems so far with G6 Lite:

Good news is the game loads fine on Safe Mode. Trim ROM doesn't seem to affect anything negatively. Regardless of how the game is written to the cart (Safe Mode, DoFAT w/ R/W, etc.), the game freezes up when:

- The game saves data.
- Interface is switched to Klingon language
- Upgrades, awards, unlockables, etc. are received.

The freezing is accompanied by a high-pitched screeching, so turn down your volume while testing this

Too bad the stupid Enterprise show had to be so bad and ruin the future of Star Trek TV shows. Now all that is left is the upcoming movie with what's his face that everyone hates playing a young captain Kirk

The slow and painful death of the Star Trek series:
Star Trek: TOS [awesome]
Star Trek: TNG [awesome]
Star Trek: DS9 [slightly below awesome]
Star Trek: Voyager [okay]
Enterprise [craptastic]

Gambia, The
DS9 was great, especially the later seasons with the Dominion Wars and other big story arcs. Nothing beats TNG, though.
