My mum's original NDS has developed a problem with the touchscreen, a large patch in the middle does not respond to touch any more.i have tried recalibrating it to no avail as well as cleaning it etc.i heard a rumour that there may be a software glitch that causes this but cannot find any info on google (google is still my friend). i appreciate that its a matter of

If there is a screen protector on it, try removing/replacing that. Screen protectors can mess up calibration if they are installed incorrectly or have since shifted on the screen.

Check the edges of the touchscreen where it meets the casing. Make sure there is no debris or pinches pressing on the touchscreen. You can use a toothbrush to clean the edges.

I have never heard of any software glitch causing touchscreen issues, but pulling the battery for a couple minutes would clear it and reset the entire DS. Keep in mind that any online data would be lost if you pull the battery.

If none of that works, the membrane for the touchscreen element has likely failed somehow and needs to be replaced.

nice one, thanks guys.new i could rely on gba as always.will give those a go and if not then il replace the screen.thanks again
