Gaming nDiswrapper help, installing windows drivers

Hi Guys
I have finallly installed xUbuntu 10.7 on my other computer.
To get my wi-fi working, I would have to install ndiswrapper.
But the thing is that I don't know how..
I saved the tar file to the desktop, and I have no internet connection.
I go into terminal and try to open it, but it says no such file.
I just type in ''ndiswrapper'
Then it tells me to write sudo get install ndiswrapper common or something
But after password verification and stuff, it says the file doesnt exist

How do I go about installing this without an internet connection?

You can't install it using (sudo) apt-get if you don't have an internet connection.

You can download it from here on another computer and then open it on the Ubuntu one: http://packages.ubuntu.com/lucid/all/ndisw...common/download

This is assuming you're using 10.04, the latest one. 10.7 doesn't exist.

It's a command line application. You have to open up the console (Alt+F2, type in gnome-terminal) to use it. I've never used it myself though, so I don't know the details.

Noooooooooooo, I hate command line.
Does anyone know how I can install my Trendnet TEW424UB WiFi adapter with this??

I typed in ndiswrapper into terminal.
It said that the utils 1.9 is not installed..
Is that OK, or do I have to have the utils as well?
And how would I install that then.

PLZZZ HELP??
Im installing the utils,, I just need to know how to use this..

You may have better luck asking on the ubuntu forum. Never had to use ndiswrapper thankfully, as Linux had drivers for my wireless card.

Also give this a read, it may give you a clearer picture of what is required.

Might I suggest:

There is a GUI nowadays for ndiswrapper which should make it easier for you. Ndiswrapper isn;t very hard in commandline though (the item below the gui text). You might have to try various drivers before you find one that works for you though. Also please make sure you have a 32 / 64 bite driver depending on the OS you are running.

Yea thanks, I installed ndiswrapper.
But it keeps giving an error that it cant find the driver, Im about to give up on this linux stuf

I linked to the GUI (but I might not have been clear enough

). Also, Linux = case sensitive. That's a good thing

. Lesson wel learned. Hope you enjoy Linux (though you might prefer KDE over Gnome, I do).

Btw, a bit of command line:
ls - shows you files and folders in the current dir
man * - opens the manual for a command if you have the manual installed

Also, depending on what console you've installed however in this case probably, you have tab completion installed. You type the first few letters of a command or file and hit the [tab] key on your keyboard and the computer adds the rest of the letters (or gives you options of everything that starts with those letters so you can type/choose).
