So, quick question. Someone I know has awii that's been bricked that was just given to him because of such. Don't have the original NAND, but could I use my NAND through BootMii (which it does load onto thankfully) without any trouble? Or is there some sort of NAND-Wii specificness that requires the original NAND?

tl;Dr - Best option for unbricking a Wii that goes into BootMii that's been acquired?

If the wii in question has bootmii as boot2, what i would do is use bootmii to make a nand dump from the wii, i know its bricked but by making a nand dump you will also get the keys. You will need the keys to write a fresh nand onto it, use a program called ohneswarchenneger to build brand new nand. Im sure theres a guide somewhere round here to using that program.

After you have created a fresh nand use bootmii and the keys you got from dumping the bricked nand to write the new nand to the wii.

As long as you can access Bootmii then you are pretty much bulletproof, reading and writing the nand is safe to do and will not mess with your boot2/bootmii.

That's really interesting @Sicklyboy , I was always under the impression that usenet was slower than regular internet. Also the fact that you don't need any vpn for it to be secure.
  • Plazorn @ Plazorn:
It seems like it would be less stressful, because you wouldn't have to worry about piracy trolls as much

Yeah, like at the end of the day, with the few usenet providers and NZB indexers I'm paying for, I'm probably paying anually what a netflix sub would cost. But netflix doesn't have everything media related I want, let alone other stuff like games and software :D

But it's largely set it and forget it
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
On black friday and a bunch of other holidays you can usually find providers doing like $35/year sales on reddit. And the indexers are usually like $15-20 for a year and a half on sale

You pay for the convenience at the end of the day

I have I think 3 providers I'm currently paying for and 2 indexers. So probably around $110 a year if I had to guess in order to keep that setup going
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
But you certainly don't need to go that deep into it, you can do very well with a single provider and single indexer
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
Yeah the convenience factor is unbeatable imo. Worth it to me

thanks @Sicklyboy, Usenet makes more sense to me now.
