Hacking n3ds - problems installing GBA VC games.

On n3ds(j) emunand 9.2, and trying to install cia versions of some of my favorite GBA games.
I installed them via fbi, and they show up on the home menu, but when I try and launch them I get a black screen that requires a reboot.
I thought it might be a region issue, so I tried the original(unpatched) mother 3, it left me with the same results.

If this isn't the proper forum feel free to correct me, it's been a long time since I last used this site.
If it helps, I have not had this problem with any other cias i've tried installing, both "legit" games and homebrew.
I am running rxtools, not reinand(even though I've heard rei is the prefered cfw for n3ds, I have never been able to successfully install it).

think I already installed it, that was the AGB_FIRM sig patcher, yes?
fbi installed it without error, will try installing on sysnand now
all I have to do is boot into sysNand and install it with FBI? should I have installed the patched AGB_FIRM on sysNand as well(followed the guide on emuNand, hit L to install to NAND without error)?

Once you install the patched AGB_Firm to sysNAND (if you get an error, delete AGB_Firm from sysNAND then install the AGB_Firm CIA), it will work. I recommend having the games installed on both emuNAND and sysNAND so they will launch while booted into either sys or emuNAND.

He needs the game installed on sysNAND to launch them from emuNAND and yes the AGB patch needs to also be on both nands.
