I've tried messing around with several programs. I can't seem to convert the file back to a .pcm. I hope you guys figure this out.

PCM are like samples. Didn't you noticed that when opened on audacity the are really short?. 0.5 seconds tops.

If you open the intro file and slow it down you will hear the song.

PCM = Microsoft Pulse Core Modulation. Which is basically a WAV file.

To Clarify, WAV files can contain PCM encoded audio.
So you can just rename the .WAV file?!?

You sure it's the same as Guitar Hero? I think the format is different, but yeah, we can ask them about the method, now where're those guys? *looking.....*
No. They are just good with Audacity (which is the software we are using).

I'm gonna try renaming to see what is does. I'll be back soon.

EDIT: I converted an mp3 to a wav and renamed it Intro.pcm. When I booted the game it crashed on the menu screen. I may be due to the fact that the .wav file I put in the game was 27MB. Is there a way to get the file size down? If so, the game might be able to load it.

EDIT2: Okay, I wanted to try something smaller, so I decided to replace the sound that plays when you pick up gold. I replaced it with a megaman X sound effect that, as a .wav file, was only 17KB in size. The original file was 5KB. The game booted up fine, but as soon as the little demo character pick up some gold on the menu screen, the game started making a terrible hissing noise. The noise continued to play even though no gold was being picked up. The game never did crash, but the sound didn't stop either.

I think this may have something to do with the sampling rate. If we can speed up the file before we put it in the game, it may play correctly. Please note that this is all just my best guessing. I basically have no idea what I am doing.

Maybe this is possible. The game seems to run okay (despite the terrible sound that plays). I was able to boot up a level and play through the entire thing with no slowdown or crashing.

Hopefully someone with a better knowledge of audio files will help us out.

EDIT3: @playallday
I just noticed that in the first page of this topic you stated that you already can put songs into the game. So, have you already figured it out? If so, a guide or something would be nice.

No, its what I've done so far. We just need to know how to put the .pcm file back and working.

P.S. I will send you a PM soon about this (need your help). I will also add a test file that may work...

I've been investigating how to read and mess with the .pcm files for N+ myself lately, and have figured out how to open the original .pcm files in audacity.

first go to:

file > import > raw data

and select your .pcm file

then put the settings like in the screenshot I've made, below :

audacity_import-raw.jpg

then audacity should successfully open the file, and you can play it back.

So from this we can dedeuce that the game uses Signed 8-bit headerless pcm (raw audio) at 11025hz -- now to figure out how to save files like that.

I've tried a few methods, but the results either play too slowly or cause the menu to crash upon loading.

I know that.

To save it back:
PAlibFirst, open up Audacity. Press Ctrl+P (or go to the Edit menu and click Preferences). Click the File Formats tab. There is a drop-down box called “Uncompressed Export Format.” Click it and select other, then put in what we did for using Switch: “RAW (header-less)” and Signed 8 bit PCM. Click OK on that window and the next window.

Now, open the file you want to convert, then go to the File menu and click “Export As RAW” and you’re all set!

So, if we can get the songs to play in the game, don't we just have to figure out how to get them to play at the right speed?

after export are u just changing the .raw to .pcm? i overwrite the original gold.pcm with something and when i collect gold no sound plays...

also my .nds filesize dropped
