1. Are there any chips that are useless? (lack of support etc.)?
2. Can I play region free backups with those chips?
3. Can I play region free NGC backups with those chips?

1. How old is your wii?
Most D2c and beyond chips are still supported. The original wiikey and some of the really old chips (first gen wiinja).
If d2b with no cut pins (some d2c chips have alternate points that skip the need for grinding chips with cut pin d2b) I would consider a homebrew chip, you can make one or you can buy one: http://www.eurasia.nu/shop/product_info.php?products_id=350

2. CJL18's method is a bit old these days. Most people use geckoOS these days:

3. Yes. Have a look at http://gbatemp.net/index.php?download=633 for making multi game discs.

if i have an old d2b wii, can i buy a blank PIC 12F683 from any electronic components reseller and use a serial pic programmer to flash it with yaosm?

coz i would save a lot on shipping cost.

I think I have a pretty new wii, it came with the firmware 3.2e.

I'm going to some wii-modder here in the Netherlands, with good support, and if he breaks it, he'll get me a new one right away. (my mom thought this was a better idea since she paid half the price of the wii).

But I want to know for sure that he doesn't give me a chip that has support like the R4 has now.
And I want to know if I can just play NGC backups (it would be really nice if that would be regionfree), and Wii backups (I want to play SSBB).

But if it has to be with some homebrew (the regionfree part), it doesn't mather that much...

Using GeckoOS you can play region free GCN backups. And as for playing SSBB, you need a dual-layer DVD-R to burn it to. You can play it on a single layer disk, but you need to manually replace EVERY video in the first layer of the ISO. It's a pain. I suggest you go with a homebrew chip. Cheaper and has all the features the commercial chips have, so there really isn't a reason to not get one if you're having someone else do the soldering. Or, why not get a Wii-Clip and an 12f683? BTW, YAOSM=best open-source firmware evar.

Okay, and now without the homebrew chips.
I don't have anyone for the soldering, so I'm just having it chipped at some guy who is a prof. at this.

So, please just answer my question:
Is there any chip that lacks the support, just like the R4?

So if I burn SSBB on a dual layer, I am able to play it on any other chip, just as any other game?

SSBB is old and works without problems on any chip out now.

you only have to take care when burning and use layer break.

EDIT: anyone know where can i buy a free-clip?
