Alright, so many of you know I room with a friend. I just confirmed that he is a Hipster Douche. If something gets popular, he just dislikes it. Everything he dislikes, one of the reasons is "Because it's popular." Even if he liked it before, if it gets popular, he starts hating it. People like this just pisses me off. Disliking something to break away from the crowd. Music, movies, video games, books, etc. Nothing is protected from him. One example is that when he was listening to a DJ named Satomi he introduced me to his music. One of the very reasons I started listening to him was because he thought so highly of him. I played one of his songs on my stereo, and he changed it. Almost made him get out and walk. Just out of the blue he disliked his music because it was suddenly "Too popular". I mean what the hell!?

Everyone breathes oxygen, including animals, it's waaaaay too popular. Tell him to become a plant and breathe carbon dioxide instead. Nowait, carbon dioxide is popular among the plants...

His problem is, thinking became too popular and now he doesn't think anymore. In fact, if you became popular in your dorm (?) or whatever, he would prob move the fuck out. That should be something for you to consider.

Yes, he'll be moving out on the fourth of July. Can't say I won't miss him.

@Raika: God, that made me laugh.

What if being unpopular became popular? Would that mean he would switch to being popular, or he would still be unpopular?

He does sound like a douche.
If being unpopular was popular he wouldn't want to become unpopular because he would be popular and wouldn't want to become popular.

I can relate to your roomy... I hated alot of popular things before giving them a chance. Just because everyone was doing "it" I didn't want anything to do with them. Now most of them make me who I am today. I hated Pokemon then got a copy of Blue for free and was addicted ever since. Same went for DBZ and now I'm a anime freak. Also the show Scrubs, XBOX360, MTG, etc. the list continues.

Yeah those non-conformist types do get a little annoying after a while. There's no reason absolutely no reason not to like something you truly enjoy, unless disliking popular things makes you happy somehow.

Tell him by doing that, he's just missing out on things he could be enjoying.

Heck, I like what I like. and I'll still like it long after it's popularity comes and goes.

The thing is even things he does like are vulnerable. If they get too popular, he'll just outright denounce them.

By doing that, he's changing himself for no good reason. It's just as bad as doing things because they're popular. Because he's still changing because of an outside influence. and not because of personal feelings or experiences, but because of popularity.

He just wants to stand out from the crowd, nothing really bad about that.
But it is bad because he is taking it too far.
Everything is bad when you take things too far.
