If I remember , there is an ID that you need to have if you change the hdd or mb for piracy protection.
So if it's not modded & you can't boot it ... I think it's dead.

Sorry for my bad english.

Modchip bypasses the BIOS and pretty much all protection.
However, it should display an error code and OP's doesn't do that.

Ok good to know , mine is softmoded so no chip :)

If it's a 1.0-1.5 Xbox, you can TSOP flash it.
You basically flash a "modchip" BIOS to the BIOS.

Since hacked BIOSses ignore HDD keys, you can put in any HDD you want.

Need to find someone to do this as I don't solder and don't plan on starting quite yet. :x

That is what I did & I used it as a media center back in the days.

Ah good.
Then you're pretty much set for life.
Aside from hardware failures, the thing is brick proof.

Trace repair pens are known to work ;p

I'm a technician , I fix copiers/printers . Soldering is easy for me.
But with the xbox I did not need to solder (as long as I remember) only the switch for the bios switching

Fair enough.
You still need to enable write access to the BIOS regardless of revision haha.

Will I have to install a mod chip or can i do a tsob. My Xbox is something around a 1.2 or 1.3

A while back I said you might be able to get it working with a chip but financially, it's better to get a new xbox.
TSOP is a no go, you need to be able to boot a BIOS flasher.
