I suppose that's true - on the sticker they still say "1MB = 1,000,000bytes / 1GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes" followed by the typical disclaimer about actual size and advertised size. I always figured they added the extra hundred or so GB in capacity to make the difference after formatting less noticeable. Nobody complains about losing 30GB out of 1000, but if they only got around 820GB... that'd be pretty much 1/5 of the drive lost.

Come to think of it, that's happened to me once before. When I called up WD about it, they couldn't explain it and eventually had me send it in for a replacement that gave me around 940GB instead after formatting.
