I got my Iplayer review card today along with my M3i Zero card!.....

Here's My review (Its quite a long indepth one as I tested many formats of files) ...

note:- (LOTS OF IMAGES to follow so dial up users BEWARE may take some time loading!!!)

First some screen shots

Warning: Spoilers inside!

Unboxing the card like with most DS cards It comes with a Usb Card Reader this time in Smart black plastic which

feels quite flimsy but works fine, It also comes with a disk that contains the loader/system files and a word doc manual..

also in the box is a nice glossy color printed mini manual/user guide
Warning: Spoilers inside!

Some more pictures

Warning: Spoilers inside!

A nice Multilingual manual/instructions and included disk came in the box which includes ....
Instructions in several languages as well as a basic user guide
Warning: Spoilers inside!

OK so now on with the review ....

For this test I will be using an 8gb class 6 micro sd I have spare ....

current version of the loader/player software kernel at time of testing is iPlayer OS v1.0

available here :

**
Linfoxdomain Flashcard Loader Archives link

Official website ... link

Official website intro/Manual link

For this test I will be using a number of different Media types as suggested/supported on the box these are

AVI,DIVX,MOV,RMVB,,ASF,FLV,3GP,MPG,WMV,MP3 I will test a couple more different ones such as FLAC and

,MP4,VOB to see if it will play them even though it does not state a couple of those formats.

First off to install the iPlayer OS to the mem card .... you need to download the kernel files from one of the links above **
Then you need to unzip/unrar or whatever you use to unpack zipped/compressed files with ..

You will now have a folder called _System .. put your mem card into the card reader and connect it to your usb port of the

pc ... now you need to drag this entire folder to your mem card to copy the system/loader files onto it!
Warning: Spoilers inside!

Now put your mem card into your Iplayer card and the Iplayer card into your DS and start the DS up you need to do this

for the first time before putting any media onto your mem card to automatically create the necessary VIDEO and MUSIC

folders for your media files ..

(I made the mistake first time round making my own folders this caused freezes and corruption so just get the card to

make the files for you!)

Once the interface of the Iplayer has loaded once shut down your ds and take out the mem card and put it back in the

card reader and you will now see the folders it created ...
Warning: Spoilers inside!

all you need to do now is copy the files you want to use to the right folders for video and music .. for homebrew you can

run it from anywhere on the card I just made another folder for them.

Now on to testing some video clips ...

AVI: test movie.avi (note this was a full 2 hr movie i had on hd!!! )

Warning: Spoilers inside!

result plays great although you have to change the settings to show in original size or it shows stretched!

3gpp (Mobile Phone video) (test.3gpp)

Warning: Spoilers inside!

result plays great but needs to be set to Full Screen in the settings otherwise it appears as a small square in the middle

with an inch black border!

Asf (test.asf)

Warning: Spoilers inside!

result plays great full screen no problems

MOV (test.mov)

Warning: Spoilers inside!

result works great plays fine!

Warning: Spoilers inside!

result works and plays great no problems

RMVB (test.rmvb)
Warning: Spoilers inside!

result works and plays great no problems

FLV (test.flv)

Warning: Spoilers inside!

result works and plays fine no problems

MPG (test.mpg)

VOB (test.vob this is a dvd file)

Result does not work locks up the Iplayer .. this was not on the list of formats but tested by me anyway!

Audio formats tested various bitrates

MP3,M4A,WAV,WMA,FLAC

all of these audio formats tested work and play fine!

NesDS Works
SNEmulDSv06a Works (remeMber the cfg file goes in the root folder and roms in a folder in your mem card
root called SNES)

SCORES ON THE DOORS for the Iplayer card

I gave this 9 outta 10 Its a good PMP (personal media player) it has great compatiblity for a lot of formats with the

lol watermarks are there for a good reason my pretty basic R4 guide to real and fake cards got ripped off on 3 sites so now i watermark my images sure they are annoying but they serve a genuine purpose [IMG]

re swf they may introduce an update to the card to make it play swf and vob maby too but everything I threw at it worked fine .. not included in the review but can say here that Moonshell works fine on this card too so DPG also not tested will work on the card even if it does not support it natively [IMG]

tech info for the files are gained from each file using Media info freeware analysis tool its handy for pc use to install the correct codecs for playback and encoding.

Probably because it's kinda pointless to, since DPG videos tend to be of somewhat low quality and are entirely unnecessary to use when you can play nearly any other video format. Still, yeah, it does seem like a rather strange thing to miss out.

After being able to play the most popular vid formats the only real advantage was the major reduction in size a movie has when you format it. That's probably why it also has 3GP compatibility.

Of course, if you can run MoonShell, there's no reason that's a problem........

Also, sorry if a double post, but could you check if YSMenu works at all on it? just wondering if it does, because while cards like the AK2 can run it i'd assume the iPlayer team blocked out commercial ROM loading.

Nice review. Maybe if the SDK for this cart gets released, and people start programming for it, I'll get one. I don't really like watching movies on my DS, and for music, I got my mp3 player.

Btw, its "copyright", not "copywrite" [IMG]

The iPlayer team is quite reluctant to release the SDK.

yes commercial rom loading is blocked!

For now no rom loaders will work on this card!

Re: copywrite/copyrite yeah I know but hey you spotted the watermark so its doing its job of people stealing my work and reviews that's all that matters it just draws more attention that I spelled it wrong! [IMG]

But hey I'm only Human! .. added to this I CBA to change it now its done the review took me all day to do and I'm not going to mess with the images now ...The main point was to test it to breaking point for the review! [IMG]

Woo hoo! I got my iPlayer from DX yesterday...

I am actually suprised at how good AVIs look on it! I love it. MP3s are as you'd expect, but my AVIs look muuuuuuuuuuch better than DPGs on Moonshell!

I love my new iPlayer!

I think I'll sell my DSVision now, it's pretty useless anyway... I was waiting for a hack for DSVision, or some sort of converting software so I could play my own videos on it, but now I don't think I'll bother. I'll stick with the iPlayer.

AVIs FTW!

But it has horrendous buffering issues...depending on the video in question, it sometimes can't even play more than a few seconds before dying on you.

Could be the type of memory card. I have had this issue with memory sticks.

iPlayer is pretty much dead for DSi...

and the support team seems not even going to support it in long term, like DS-X....

Just looking back over this thread the comment above is incorrect WE ALL KNOW now that the iPlayer is fully compatible with the DSi and does not even need another console to update ... you just need the update on your mem card and it will self update [IMG]

Also new to iPlayer is the GBA emulator which runs a few gba roms (search the forum for more information)

Great review! YSMenu doesn't boot ROMs when used on iPlayer. Maybe an un-offcial kernal might though.
