Can the DS power on?
If the answer is yes then my opinion is to buy full case replacement from dealextreme.

I'm not that tech savy. Plus my touchscreen is very inaccurate, so it needed fixing anyway I sent it off to Nintendo last week and am just waiting to get a phone call from them. Hopefully they don't charge too much, but yeah anyway. Should be alright.

*pats on the back* My warmest of wishes to you. I'll be getting several dental proceedures soon so I will be needing my DS more than ever for several days straight as I lie, dazed in my bed. My deepest condolences to you in your time of greif.

I hope that your DS makes a speedy and full recovery.

My DS died yesterday. It was a launch model DS Lite and has served my faithfully except it had a crack in one of the hinges. A lot of people have this crack. Well yesterday the hinge broke off entirely when I closed the lid. I wasn't even being forceful with it. I had no indication this would happen. The DS still boots and works but, yeah, the top half hanging by a thread doesn't make it easy to play.

I've sent it away to Nintendo Australia for repair today, hopefully they don't charge me too much. Has anyone else had an experience with the case breaking? How much did it cost to fix?

I'll be DS-less for a few weeks now. I'll miss it, especially with all the cool games out at the moment.

This happened to my friend too. He bought a new case, but after a while, the top screen started to tint purple.

Happened to me, nothing a bit of glue can't fix. Although eventually I did get a new one and I sold my old one to my friend for $20 who wanted it just for playing on at home, so it was fine for him, whereas I use it alot for DS Dev and at school etc.

They want me to pay £55 for the repairs...
I only have a couple of cracks on the hinges, does this mean they know that it will happen?
I think that we got scammed by nintendo

I would rather just buy a new one than pay that price.
