Hacking My CycloDS arrived with an 'odd' card reader...

Did some research before ordering my cart', finding that the old revisions have the blue-transparent plastic reader and the later ones having a metal cased one.

Well mine arrived today, and the card reader is neither of the above!

Black transparent plastic, looks very smiliar to the old blue one but appears to have a different circuit board inside.

The Cyclo' is a V3 btw, so it isn't from an ancient batch.

Anyone else had one of these?

As long as it is a Cyclo, who cares what color microSD reader u get. They were probably out of metal ones, they're not a huge corporation you know.

I got this one too, i decided too buy a new one though since ive heard bad things about the ones you get with the cycloDS and didnt want my 16gb sdhc card geting corrupted on me :

According to TeamCyclops forums there is.

Updated Actel chip that's slimmer so it sits flush, also a slimmer case deign so a better fit in Slot-1.

It's been around for a while now.

Judging by a quick Google search, this company = scam.
Who sells a CycloDS for $40?

They're on the recommended sellers list on the CycloDS site so I doubt they'd sell fakes, and as I've checked that it is real, that doesn't matter anyway.

They're known for not dispatching goods etc, but I expect that's a case of hearing about the bad experiences but never any of the good. It's not often you see someone start a thread just to praise an e-tailer.

But I shall, as I ordered tuesday night, was dispatched wednesday afternoon and I recieved it thursday morning. Maybe I was just lucky, but I'd order from them again.

And it's $45 after conversion.

No ideal what you are talking about...
I have not seen this complaint on TC forums either...
The branded CycloDS reader does the job just fine... Been using it for just over 3 months now maybe a lil less.
It reads/writes SD/SDHC perfectly and has NEVER corrupted or caused problems worth mentioning...

Back to the post itself.. This reader is sketchy IMO. Seeing a white version of CycloDS made me suspicious when looking at
Consoleup' advertisement for it... Then again v.1.0 hasn't been seen or heard of for a very long time.

My only guess is that they are trying to compete with the best retailer ATM which is Dealwoot.com
And I know they got the good stuff.... Because I got mine from them

I just got a brand new CycloDS from Consoleup and it has one of these card adapters. I suspect that they are supplied with the most recent batches. Seems to work just fine for me.

I've ordered a Kingston Mobilelite reader so I doubt it'd get used anyway. But will make a decent backup.

I think they are running a big scam somewhere.
Removing the branded Cyclo reader and replacing it from the box.
Using the branded ones to boost fake sales on non-CycloDS carts?

Lol, the irony...

After you posted that, I opened up my cartridge to check it had the onboard OS chip (EDGE doesn't).

Fortunatly it does, so it doesn't seem to be an EDGE with a new sticker put on it.

Well I've never heard of any problems with the EDGE reader so go ahead and use this one. But yeah, the website did seem pretty shady and swapping out the awesome CycloDS reader for this piece of junk seems like something they'd do.

Now swapping out the Cyclo for an EDGE, that's just evil.

I just ordered one for a Christmas present on 12/07/08 and it came with the silver one too.

Never saw the style you have pictured before. As long as it works, I wouldn't worry about it.
