Can someone recommend a good (free and safe) MVK converter. Got a bunch of these files I need to convert to AVI.

Thanks

SUPER?

Idunno' if handbrake takes it as an input format.

Ah, I already have Super installed. Didn't realize it could convert MVK files. I'll give that a try.

Thanks

A quick aside- while many MKV files contain H264 and other weird and wonderful things many will still have XVID at their heart. You can simply demux this and stick it in an AVI file, MKVtoolnix has options http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/
The extract part does not have a GUI but http://sourceforge.net/projects/mkvextractgui-2/ does.

From here you can simply use an AVI muxer (virtualdub has the option if you use the use source options) but there are any number of simple AVI mux tools

Bonus is this way is far quicker and there will no quality loss as you are not encoding anything.

Bonus 2- even if your MKV houses H264 or you otherwise need to edit something properly (remember you can slice things off videos aka trim them without too much hassle) rather than hope your video editor/encoder has MKV read abilities (MKV is not the simplest/most desirable format to support as an input method) you can pick and choose what to extract and if your editor does not support raw files of various formats in one way or another I strongly suggest you pick another editor as chances are the one you are trying to use is a piece of junk.

Alrighty. Thanks, Fast. If I can figure out how to use those apps properly, I'll definitely give them a whirl.

Mediacoder

Tried downloading that software, and Antivir caught adware attached to it. Please refer to my original post, wherein I asked for "safe" software.

Thanks

Screenshot what Antivir said it was.

Sorry, not Antivir, it was Windows Defender. Here's the message I received:

I like Xvid4PSP. I know it says PSP in the title, however it is good for 360, PS3, and others. It recognizes all video files I have thrown at it and the only containers it does not output to is WMV.
