When SMB mounting fails, isn't it possible to display what exactly fails?
I've tried a dozen times now, I have absolutely no idea what could be wrong

Mplayer seemed to successfully mount the SMB share when it started up, but when I try to browse the share it just shows the SD card contents. Am I missing something?
Using XP? it's mounted therefore it should be able to browse it, is the folder shared correctly on the network?
Maybe wait a few more moments and try browsing share....

It is shared correctly. It shows as a shared drive on the Network and I have successfully accessed it from other machines. I tried letting it sit for a bit and re-checking. Does the SD card just show as default for smb:/? Any other suggestions or tips for troubleshooting?

There is a small bug in code, if your using a "share" make sure it contains no spaces.
e.g.
Movies

and what about displaying a more specific error message? is that possible?
now it just shows MOUNT FAILED. But I have no idea what's wrong.
Can't it find the PC, can't it find the share, is the user or password wrong?

At the minute no, i will forward this info on, as maybe it could help having a txt file saved to SD on errors. that would help us, you allot.

But...there are many many things that cause a no share SMB.
1)smb.conf filled out wrong
2)Spaces in "Share" as i mentioned above
3)Router has "blockages" and network isn't sharing, try using another PC, to see if it shares over network.
4)Folder is not "network shared"
5)Your wifi connection is bad
list goes on..i can't diagnose everyone's problems. it's easier to keep testing yourself.
SMB is extremely easy, i can't help i can just hint at "possible" problems.

[EDIT]I think that I can add a debug option on mplayer.conf
next update "will fix" many many issues i'm glad to say

Well I'll just keep trying then I guess.
the user name in the config file, is that my actual windows user name, so the one I click on at the welcome screen?
also, does it perhaps have problems with strange characters in the password? Like : for example?

Kedest i believe so yes, USERNAME can have characters like ! though, just not a share or password.

Kedest, tell me your smb.conf

also even try without a 0 in password

this is my file
ip=192.168.0.101
share=Simpsons
user=John
pass=**

I found the IP with IPCONFIG in a command line windows
Simpsons is a folder on my G:\ drive, the share name is also Simpsons. it has subfolder for all seasons. Do I have to share them too or do they inherit the share?
John is my username in Windows, I click on it to log on
My password is a combination of letters and numbers, and it also contains :

also, i'm getting the error reading section 16 -> 41 error, don't know if that's related
it shows after 'initializing network'

I have a little question, according to the look of MPlayer. Yeah, I'm just thinking always at the visuals, i know...but hey that's also important

. Anyways, like you maybe know, I've said before that I would love to make a skin, the basic idea is here, it should be like Front Row on Mac. Images are also ready, all I need to know is the size for the background Images...should I go with the normal 640x456 like the original Background,? Won't it be to much streched (16:9)? Many Thanks in Advance for that silly question

before, (in that actuall photo) i was using the wifi version and the error number that it's there is the same as now (so i do think it's related)
