is it in correct port? do you have mplayers cIOS installed? etc...... ?

i have the usb2 cios installed the one where you have to install it followed by dvdx, its in the port to the left, ie the port at the top when its lying down.

I use mplayer ce. used to use geexbox about a year ago, but since i found about mplayer ce i havent looked back.

I play all my media via smb over wifi so mplayer ce wins hands down due to this alone. havent even tried to use a usb device with mplayer ce as i cant see any point when i can access all of my media via smb.

the only file formats ive thrown at it that dont work so far are HD files (duh, lol) and vob's (played, but was terribly choppy and out of synch). plays non-HD mkv files fine which is nice, and obviously divx, xvid and mpeg.

cant wait for the new gui! automatic smb browsing would be nice too (ie. not having to manually put in your smb shares) but i can get over that for now. and automatic playing of the next file in a directory, but thats been said many times also

yep its in the ToDo

glad smb works great for some, iv'e just been doing some smb testing and it seems using IOS60 as a base to install IOS202 is much better than IOS36 (bushing, once told us IOS60 has wifi improvements) we didn't really know as before using IOS60 broke SDHC for us, now fixed with the cIOS installer

I may have to get someone to change wiki about it if someone has IOS60 on wii.

I have a great connection, nothing was using router, anyway
tests: you should try yourself aswell

first since default wiki tells you tells you to install IOS202 using ios36 as a base, if you are on that, play a file over smb (30mins or so) whatever...

ten try reconnecting that share, all work fine? that's ok.
If not? reinstall the cIOS but choose IOS60 as the base for 202, repeat the process playing the same file, and reconnecting the share? works now?

As far as geexbox goes, for the most part, it has never crashed on me! Actually it crashed once, but that was because the harddrive I was using had shut off.

uranuskiller, re my previous post, any idea why mplayer ce doesnt even see my usb drive when every other program does?

either it isn't fat32 1st partition, set as priamry/active or it isn't compat with ehci module (or you havent even install the cIOSa as the wiki instructs too) go make sure youv'e done so

so how to help us.

Install the the cIOS as instructed via mplayer wiki
once completed install, insert usb, power wii on, load HBC, load mplayer, press browse usb about 20 times, incase the HDD isn't waking up, mine sometimes takes between 2-12 times for motor to start.
If no look, your'e device is incompat with ehci module, so go to mplayerce google code, read the news, and do the test, thanx!

thanks

most of this i already covered in my post a few posts above this but..

cIOS is installed fine. ive followed instructions and after the first time i installed this i was able to view from memory stick
pressed browse usb 30 times. dont see why this should be necessary when no other program has a problem connecting first time but...
as posted above, i ran the test and got

on running the test program i get

usb device test program v0.4
running at 0x13730000
ehcl module loaded
initialising usb device
usb2 init -2201
usb device not detected, report 'usb2 init' value
press home or reset to exit

there is no log on the sd card.

just to reiterate

its a normal verbatim 1tb drive formatted fat32. Mac disk utility doesnt have anything about whether its a primary partition but i do have boot record setting which is the recommended setting for pc drives.

geexbox works perfectly

usb loader gx works perfectly

I will probably get flamed by uranuskiller after this post however here goes.

I use Mplayer CE in preference to Geebox, I find it loads a lot faster and the controls are more intuitive,

Firstly, to be able to install the old version of DVDx on a higher system menu, you first need to run IOS downgrader, see my previous post: here.

Secondly, and uranuskiller is going to throw a fit at this one but trust me it works, install the old Rev2 of Hermes cIOS not Rev3 as posted on the MplayerCE page, otherwise follow the instructions on their page and everything should work ok. Don't quote me on this, but I do not think Wanins cIOS Rev13 and the version of cIOS used by the mplayer team get along very well.

Let me know if this works, if not feel free to call me a prat, LOL.

I don't flame, I don't like to.
but this is a bad result,

i'm sure it can be fixed in the usb2 driver or mplayers ehci module tweaks

and yeah you are right it doesn't use waninkoko's cIOS

A bit speculitive but I was thinking that perhaps Waninos cIOS rev13 breaks cios_installer_3 in some one even though they are being installed to different locations, 249 and 202. Could be wrong but it seems everyone using Wanin 13 have had trouble with CE. I know that if I use cios_installer_3 then my HDD refuses to play ball with CE however, Hermes V2.1 works fine.

uhmm, very strange, no they don't conflict with one another, it's just tweaking the ehci module or the installer can end up causing other devices that have worked to not work, or it's libogc/libfat
smile.gif

Doing allot of testing before releasing the next build (possible last release before gui) and has big improvements in usb just ehci module, slight speedup (libfat) etc. Time will tell.

Geexbox because :

- it always find my external HDD
- usb 1.1 is far enough to read movies
- GUI is far better than the mplayer GUI
- i never load movies from data DVDs
- installing dvdx kills the ability to load roms from usb devices

maybe mplayer ce works so well for me because i dont have dvdx, hermes cios 202 or much other crap aside from waninkoko's cios rev13b.

no need for dvdx or usb2.0 as i dont use dvd's or usb

For me its gotta be geexbox...mplayer is just not stable enough...tried to watch a movie yesterday but using my w/d passprt usb drive it kept on crashing every 10-15mins for unknown reason.

Mplayer certainly has more features but if it cant do the simple feature like play movies from hdd like geexbox will allways be the winner.

Hopefully Mplayer will get sorted eventually but until that time it geexbox all the way.

Just wish they could merge both of them together to make a fantastic media player like XBMC.....in my dreams i suppose.

MPlayer CE has far surpassed Geexbox in most things except a few minor compatability issues with USB, some media types, and lack of NTFS support.

Keep both if those minor things affect your setup, but MPlayer CE is way more up to date, particularly with USB 2.0 support.

That's the biggest lack ever, since NTFS is probably the far best feature of GeeXboX.
Anyway, GeeXboX is much more stable, recognizes my drive without any problems, and fits my needs (subtitle delay, vsync etc.) when it comes to video playback.

any fix to wiimotes that wont sync with geexbox? i tried every single version out and every combination possible of pressing buttons on wiimote while starting etc and my wiimotes still won't sync. geexbox loads fine, i just have no way to use it after it loads.

ntfs is a throwaway feature for me since i'm on mac. but add hfs+ and then we'll talk
