The latest version of Firefox Beta has the following changes:

•Drastically improved memory use
•Added a new rendering backend to speed up Canvas operations on Windows systems
•Bookmark and password changes now sync almost instantly when using Firefox Sync
•Added support for text-overflow: ellipsis
•Added support for the Web Timing specification
•Added an opt-in system for users to send performance data back to Mozilla to improve future versions of Firefox. This can be enabled by installing an add-on
•Fixed several stability issues
Please see the complete list of changes in this version. You may also be interested in the list of changes in the previous version.

Im still on 4...

Firefox 7 is on beta 5, not beta 1. It'll probably reach RC in the next couple of weeks. Firefox 7 final is set to be released September 27.

Considering the new Firefox release cycle (new version every 6 weeks I believe), I don't think it's necessary to post a news thread each time...

Nice, i'll have to update eventually in case I ever need it again.

Still, until it can stop crashing all the time on my laptop, I am sticking with Chrome.

I've heard that using nightly firefox is better, since it's the most up-to-date version of Firefox at any given time. It's not meant for public use since it can be very buggy (as any nightly released program is), but it gives you a look at what Firefox will be soon.

Nightly is on Firefox 9.0 I believe.

they need not be so fast in updating
the improvements must be considerable but still, make it even more considerable bcz its kinda annoying getting update messages every two weeks or so
I think they're trying to mimic Chrome more so, which is already on v13 stable (which means it must be on v15 dev i.e. latest build), despite being relatively new as browsers go.

It's beta. Stable channels only update to stable, beta to beta, so on and so forth (which is partially why it's REALLY annoying when I ask somebody what version of firefox/chrome they're using and they just say "the latest").

oh give me a fucking break i just finally got comfy with 6 even though text is really bold on a lot of sites mainly bbs.
6 had no major UI changes from 5 IIRC, what's the issue? And if fonts are acting weird in your browser, make sure your system fonts aren't missing/replaced.

I agree when there's no major changes and in this case because it's just a beta (and firefox has pre-release versions all over the place), but there are major changes here I'm looking forward to.

Hey guys. This is really old. As in...
