Mozilla Firefox 6.0 beta 1

This is my biggest grievance with Firefox, they NEED to fix that damn memory leak, as this is the biggest performance issue I can see.

I have 1 thing to say to this. This doesn't nee a new version number. Big, new version numbers are supposed to mean a lot of changes. Firefox 3.2 to Firefox 4.0 was an example. Firefox 4.0 to 5.0 there was just streamlining. I think Firefox 5 could have just been Firefox 4.1.0 and I wouldn't have cared.

They haven't really sped up any release they've just made it a lot more obvious.

I agree with a few people, I don't think they are developing firefox faster, I think they are being sleezy on their version updates. Firefox 5 could have been called 4.1XX, Firefox 6 ---> Firefox 4.2XX. It seems they have changed their idea on what a new version is.

i think they're trying to catch up with chrome 12, ie 9, and opera 11.

its for me, the most stable so definitely not stability issue but probably memory issue though i dont think its that much of an issue.
some features look really unique/new and startup time, i think google has done very well following ie.
i missed the 5 train like many other and it seems it was good to do so. one of the best people to assign versions are jdownloder guys, they have not even reached version 1 (include also pcsx2)

I don't think so. I don't think they are going any faster. They just seem to be changing from updating from 3.5.6 - 3.5.7 to 4.0 - 5.0 now. They are just trying to catch up to the version numbers of all the other browsers. ZOMG, IE is on version 9. That must be better then Firefox 3.

Let's not forget "Hey, just look at Chrome! They're already at Chrome 12! Those guys must be real badasses! Firefox sucks!", too.

Faster dev cycles aren't a negative thing. The major improvements can now be released more often, instead of just stacking them up waiting for a major release.

5 was out about a month ago now their already on 6 the guys didn't even have a chance to update their add-ons for 5!

I wouldn't have a problem with it if it weren't for two things. First, it seems like they're trying to play the numbers game with chrome, which is silly, imo. Second, a lot of plugins made by independent authors are now going to be broken every 6 to 8 weeks because of this non-sense. There are a few plugins I used to use that haven't worked since Firefox 3.x, and unfortunately they may never be updated again because of this release schedule.

ff beta 4 was out for ages, plenty of time to make it compatible

I haven't noticed anything drastically different at all between 4, 5, and now 6 Beta. UI is slightly altered in 6 Beta, but that's about all I see.
