firefox is acting like chrome a very fast release cycle instead of a big release every 6-5 month

Faster dev cycles aren't a negative thing. The major improvements can now be released more often, instead of just stacking them up waiting for a major release.I think I will increase my released schedule too, as I waited 1.5year to release my add-on officially. But the add-on was available as beta only while there weren't any major issues.
I waited to have enough improvement and tried to follow my roadmap to release it, but in the meantime a lot of people used an outdated version

So I want to update it every few updates now.
Also I was dependent on the translators, Babelzilla is buggy and I can't use their translations unless the translator decide to use the raw files from the sources.
Italian was so old and no new translator wanted to update it, I simply decided to remove Italian. (someone willing to do it?)

But that another problem for me, I'm slow at developing and I can't release an add-on which won't work with a newer Firefox version, and allowing older add-ons to install on newer Firefox will prevent users from updating the add-on too.

My addon worked on all 3.5.* and it was from 1 to 16, I didn't have to change the version number until a major release appeared.

Now I will have to update it on a regular basis too.

There is no big changes, as Firefox 7 passed into beta, the alpha version (nightly) incremented and became 8.0

You can have a quick overview here.
But to check real changes, you have to check the issue tracker. (it's really hard to find something

The first 2 entries have some news about what the current aurora 7 build has. Probably the only 'user' stuff in there now is performance and some memory optimization.

From now on I'l just update once a month manually, and I won't set it to auto update. I can't stand it if it auto updates and then suddenly one of my 20 add-ons stops working. I hate it. I need my add-ons, and I'll rather give them time to update than to live a few days without them on a 'newer' version of MF.

Yeah... I would use Firefox, but it uses memory like a bitch. I'm using Chrome now, but even then, the renderers are killing me.

only reason i really used firefox was for the add ons.
and another reason is Slyakin's.

Yes, but please don't report unless the addon is really old.

Usually developers have beta version available for newer firefox ready for a long time, and reporting that an add-on is incompatible doesn't boost the release date, it just gives bad note to the add-on.
Also, users are using the add-on reporter on beta firefox, which defeat the purpose of "requesting" update of the add-on before the official release.
An active developer is usually testing all version and future version of Firefox, he already know if the add-on is compatible or not.
If the addon is very old, the developer may have stop the development of the add-on.



I prefer using the simple Firefox preference to enable all add-ons without an additional add-on:

- Go to about:config
- Right-click, and add a new boolean
name: extensions.checkCompatibility.5.0
value: false

- Restart firefox and all your installed add-ons won't be checked for compatible with 5.0 or less. (replace 5.0 with the current firefox version, for example 6.0b)
- To go back to addon checking, double click that line to set to true, or go to addon manager window and click the top message telling you that you have addon not checked.


But I think end user will prefer the add-on reporter option, it's easier.

I am on 5.0 and it is a little bit faster! Its not beta. It was already out a week ago or so. Speaking of faster, I read on the google that Firefox 8 will be 20% Faster Than Firefox 5. Interesting.

Ahhh yes, I remember when this used to be called Minefield. It's icon used to be that of a world with a bomb fuse strapped to it.

Son of a gun. Yesterday I had Firefox using up 1.3 GB of RAM, it was horrible. Worst is that I only have 2 GB of RAM because one of my RAM sticks corrupted so I couldn't do anything for like half an hour until I got task manager running to end the process.

Nice to see new versions, but honestly fix the Mac OS plugin container (and perhaps some other systems too). Running the latest Mac OS X Snow Leopard build, latest Flash plugins, etc and I can actually get FF to crash with youtube videos often. Very often. Meh kinda hard to 'Temp when it freezes the whole browser (though it doesn't crash! Yay just freezes the whole system?) :3
