Hmm...come to think of it, I may have to mention trackmania: wii as well. I've been a fan of the series for quite a while, but I'm afraid I got caught up in the idea that the motion controls (which work awesome in mario kart) would somehow make up for its ridiculously-hard-to-be-precise movement system. Make no mistake: this is a racing game where you have to aim your turns JUST right, or that XXXXL skateboard half ramp up ahead won't launch you to the other side but straight back to square one. Add up to it that the time trials make up pretty much the entire gameplay, and you'll agree that smooth controls are not a luxury asset (in fact, if I had one complaint about the PC versions I have, it's that one).

...unfortunately, it's also where the game disappoints. Despite the fact that the game comes with a steering wheel, this game steers anything but smooth when using it. It's as if the game doesn't recognize the difference between a slight turn of the wrist and totally flicking the thing 90°.

Don't get me wrong: it's still a fun game. But I guess I shouldn't have bought it (got myself to blame: I had downloaded it prior to buying it, thinking it was just a matter of getting used to it), as the motion controls were the only thing that I thought offered anything over the PC versions I have.

As for the pro contra on SSBB. It seems to me that this is just a matter of opinion. I'm with Guild that I think the game was just meant for fun. Balancing things competively is a whole different ball game. And with respect to the programmers: I think that the ability to add patches to it after release is crucial, as there will always be players that start to do things that weren't initially anticipated.

@Wever - It might defeat the purpose of the Wii but using a Classic Controller Pro on Trackmania Wii is very precise. I think Trackmania Wii is one of the most underated games on Wii!

Brawl is a better game in every way. More characters, more fields, more content, just improvements over everything.
The few things you mention that are better absolutely don't cover "every way" (even though they are definitely very significant, and cover more than enough of what almost all people care for). Many many things were removed from Brawl (proper hitstun allowing real combos, lag canceling, wavedashing, dashdancing, proper pivoting, proper techchasing etc etc, in summary everything that gave Melee its depth).

Competitively, who gives a shit. It's SSB.
A fuckton of people seeing as over 10 years after its release there are still huge international tournaments with thousands of dollars in prize money and hundreds of attendees with people flying over from Europe to the US and vice versa. Go ahead and name another 10+ year old Nintendo title that people give half as much of a shit about competitively. The fact that Street Fighter and MvC are a lot more popular certainly doesn't mean that the thousands of people who play Smash competitively don't exist.

It's not like it's a real fighting game. It's fun as hell but it's hardly an actual fighting game.

That's your opinion and not fact (the definition of what is "real" can only be subjective), but I do share it (unlike many other Melee fans) and don't speak of Smash as a fighting game. Thing is though, anything can be played competitively. We even have a few people doing Mario Party tournies here.

QUOTE(Guild McCommunist @ May 22 2011, 09:45 PM) I'm just getting sick of people who say Melee is better than Brawl when it clearly wasn't.
Everyone can agree that Melee and Brawl are quite different, that already is reason enough to warrant different opinions. It's clear that Brawl is the game that most people would like of the two, as it takes a much more casual approach (see Sakurais own statement if you wish) appealing to the majority of smash players, those who see the series as a fun casual series.

QUOTE(Guild McCommunist @ May 22 2011, 10:06 PM)
Yeah, pretty much this. It's Nintendo's fault for making the game as unbalanced as it is to begin with and even more so their fault for being unable to patch it (compared to fighting games like Marvel vs. Capcom 3, which already got a balancing patch for Sentinel so far, and Mortal Kombat, which is able to get easy balancing patches).

Unlike Brawl, Melee was patched several times. There are four NTSC versions, two versions patched for balancing, and PAL has further balance changes. These changes all have a great impact on a competitive level. No such effort was put into Brawl in line with the casual design of the game. Melee is still very unbalanced as many characters are completely unviable on a non-casual level, but the ~10 best characters (and of course also characters under these on some occasions) are all seen frequently winning tournaments, proving them to be fairly balanced.

When asked to recommend a smash game in general, I would recommend Brawl. Brawl is a better game for most people, and I never claimed it to be bad. This thread is a thread about disappointment, and to me and the smash community that I play smash with every week here, it was a disappointment to say the very least. It was simply made for other people than us to enjoy, there's nothing to cry over but after we all had high hopes, it was quite a disappointment indeed.

EDIT: im 12 and wat is grammar

Super Mario Galaxy 1. The whole game did not get much of attention. I tried to clear it. was way to easy to get 100%.

SMG 2, Way to better then 1.

Else on Smash. Jup I agree the balancing is bad. /Ike

Spongebob Atlantis Squarepantis, I thought yesh a fun game. blegh I stopped at the first mission. An tank with ice cream COOL I thought but yeah blegh

Arc Rise Fantasia, the story, combat was good, but man the voice acting really UGH! They could of at least put japanese voices in as a choice. I heard Other M was pretty bad so I haven't touched it yet. Personally, the Wii is getting kinda dead for me, not many titles are being released besides new kirby, new pokemon, and skyward sword. I could be wrong but since Project Cafe is on it's way, are developers shifting from wii to it?

I think pokemon battle revolution, I am not a pokemon fan, I think all pokemon since pokemon yellow are the same for portable consoles, but I play one of the saga or generation games (yellow, gold, saphire, leafgreen, soulsilver, platinum, white....how would be if I really like the series? XD) just to play with my cousin who loves pokemon, a little of competition,.... ,and always the home console were a little bit good to play with someone for a while to see the pokemon in 3d, but the one for wii is awful, don't give anything more to the series is boring even more that the one for gamecube......

Too bad you didn't get the undub.

Disappointing game for me is ToS 2.

Without a doubt the award for Most Disappointing goes to Rock Band 3.

While Rock Band 2 while pretty enjoyable, the wii version had several limitations (no SDHC support, no importing of songs from other Rock Band games). Rock Band 3 promised to fix them. What was delivered instead was a half-assed, unfinished port that had even more limitations compared to the other consoles as well as many bugs that made some modes of the game completely unplayable and even screwed up the DLC library so it became inaccessible from Rock Band 2. It also only supports importing from 2 of the previous games with false explanations given as to why the others weren't included.
But the most disappointing thing of all: Harmonix knew it was buggy and shipped it anyway. Unfortunately they've since deleted the thread that contains the quote in that article, where they disclosed they knew about several of the bugs but didn't fix them as they were unable to reliably reproduce them. I find that pretty pathetic since I can reproduce them within less than 10 minutes of playing time.

I would have to say...hmm I guess No More Heroes 2. I liked the game but it felt too quick. Unlike the first game where you had to work it to get more into the game.

NMH1 was focused on exploration, NMH2 was mainly action sequences and way more complex levels.

I'd say both were good and neither really "disappointed". There were worse disappointments in history. Like... every single Pokemon game since the Advance era. This franchise barely budged in all those years. 4 bit cries, lol.

True, I just felt that they could have done better with NMH2.

And as for pokemon, for me I hate half the games, the other half I don't.

Probably like 90% of all of the wii games Ive played dissappointed me. I did like Smash Bros, Some JRPGs like xenoblade, TP, Okami, and the CoD games though. Theres a few others but most of the main wii games like Mario galaxy, Metroid, Monster hunter, and DKCR weren't my kind of games.
