Mortal Kombat banned Down Under

this is the best publicity mortal kombat could have hoped for, banning their games was the reason mortal kombat was popular in the first place, lucky bastards

Wish they didn't censor games and just fix the rating system. They could do a duel rating like T/M

Were the parent or adult can just put a certain code made just for the game in for the mature content.

Bad lucky censorship isn't that bad over here. Poor Australians.

I mean it's not a huge deal seeing as they will probably censor it and release it for Australia(like they did for Left 4 Dead 2), and it's certainly not a reason to stop living in Australia... ShadowSoldier..

To me, yes, yes it is. The Australian Gov't is too lazy to update it's system so it get's with the rest of the world. A lot of great games don't make it there, and the ones that do, don't get there the way they were made.

Because games are the most important thing in life... give me a break.

Hasn't Australia always been a bit censor/ban happy with games though? I thought they had strict rules similar to Germany? Not similar to germany at all. In germany almost all games (aimed at adults that have blood, gore, violence etc) are censored to be released. In Australia its at max like 5 games a year.

Ah, it's not as bad as I thought it was then. I thought I remembered reading it's rules were as strict as Germany's. So if they make amendments to MK it would get through? I mean it still sucks that it would be censored, but at least it would get a release. And what about importing? Does Aus have it's own region lock on consoles like the 360/PS3?

Nah none of that, it's just the damn classification system. Generally the games just get by unscratched, with a lower, and misleading rating. We got fucking God of War 3 and Alien vs Predator, completely uncensored, with a bloody 15+ rating.
But then at random times the classification board decides to do it's job with the poor ratings system and ban games that should be 18+ only, since in Australia, only moves and such are allowed to have an adult classifications.

Also lolno, region lock is PAL only. Australia uses Europes system of Region lock. As for amendments to MK, that would be up to the developer, and it would probably get through, albeit it'd be butchered no doubt.

so if they are saying its for adults then does it mean porn or violence? if its the latter then i have not seen too much in this area tht can be called adult. if its the former then again, AC2 is allowed in AUS correct? and yet there are many scenes tht are provocative...
there seems to be another classification that i think is not being mentioned clearly IMO

Exactly, technically we have it better off in australia. Most of our games are rated ma15+ where the exact same thing is m17+ in america etc. It's just some games obviously cant be classified that and hence the rc.

Back on topic: Did anyone seriously not see this coming? After all the hype this game was getting about being aimed at a mature audience and way more violent.

Exactly. Its very immature to make fun of someone due to their geographical location, and if anything, you should feel sorry that Australians have to deal with this BS. Doesn't sound like its that much of a problem, since Australians usually buy imports, but having to due that would be a big hassle. Its not Australia's fault they banned the game, its their rating board.

... Damn, I gotta get to bed. 11:56 here.

with home consoles we are just the same as you europeans (PAL) with dsi though i think we have our own region (menu only has option for nz and aus for country unlike our wii which iirc has all options for countries that eur wiis have) sadly i think 3ds may have the same problem meaning no importing games from the uk

First of all, just because its banned for sale doesnt mean you cant get it.
Import it, simple as that

But the rating is dumb but then again I havent met 1 store that EVER asked me for my age when I bought something that Im not suppose to buy including cigarettes and alcohol

Exactly, give me a break, give me the game to play the way the developers made it. Fix your shitty rating system.

I blame this on the right-wing conservatives in power that are completely out of touch with the general population, yet are backed by the few bogans out there that still vote them. Hint: the party starts with L and rhymes with "syllables". Sadly it's commonly generalised that kids will manage to get their hands on stuff that's illegal. They might as well ban MA games since younger kids get them too. I wonder when the government will start fining heavily, the parents that allow kids to have access to it, or the stores that sell to these kids.

On another note: it's legal for parents to supply alcohol to their kids if under their supervision in certain states in Australia. Even if they're underage. Oh the irony.
