Hacking Monster Hunter Tri crashing

I've tried both the NTSC/U version and the PAL version and in each case I get to the main menu, but choosing "New Game" only results in a black screen and a high-pitched whine coming from the speakers. Anyone know what the problem is?

Sorry, I don't even know what the means.

And I did search but I found problems about online play, the Wiimote not responding and stuff like that. I didn't see any mention of starting a new game crashing the console.

Thanks for the advice but I just used the Hermes one, following these steps, and the same error still occurs. Is that guaranteed to work for the NTSC-U version, 'cause at the moment I have the PAL one on the HDD. Just checking before I redownload the US version.
