Gaming Monster Hunter 3 Beginning Guide.

Switchaxe is pretty cool. The crappy sharpness is irritating as hell though. Still need to do at least 9 quests offline (incl. R. Ludroth, Gobul and Barroth) to upgrade the Switchaxe, since I need Lagracius mats for it. It's already losing sharpness after 6 hits or so, which probably means I'll have to take my Ludroth Bone Maul. That hammer loses it's sharpness just as fast, but it can still hit them when it's in the yellow. Gonna check later if there is an armor which has Sharpness+1.

OMG, I beat Gobul and it was EPIC I've never had such a fun boss battle, and before I hated him!

I seriously wish I could have recorded what just happen for you guys as I think you'd enjoy.
this is basically what happened:-

For the quest you have to hunt and kill a Gobul.
Subquest:- fish out the Gobul (literally)
break the Gobul's Lanturn

My character:- full Jaggi gear with various decorations attached (nothing special)
Bone Sword+ (Switch Axe)
--------------------------------------------------------
Before taking the quest I spoke to some of the villages one of them mentioned about Gobuls liking frogs so I went out into the island and got some.

Starting the quest I started by fishing (literally, with my frogs, oh and fishing him out makes him drop a wyverns tear) the Gobul out of the water. this gives you time to have a good few whacks. (it's easy it gives you a cutscene of your char fishing the gobul when it baits) - Sub Quest 1 complete

After that I start my onland battle (

even better) with the gobul hacking and slashing like no tomorrow while dodging and being paralyzed and dazed here and there. The first thing to come off his tail huzzah no more tail swipes, eventually he runs away to his finally segment of the map.

In his finallly map I place a trap above him where he sleeps (underwater) switch to the sword part of my switch axe and lay in to him waking him up, startling him and then trapping him to get a few more whacks in.

The little git survived that (lucky too still haven't done Sub Quest 2 the lanturn) he swims around charging at me leaving me time to get 1 or 2 hits only inbetween charges and dodges.
this is the part where I was like OMG WTF YES complete SUCCESS.

The Final Blow I dealt to the poor battered Gobul not only killed it but smashed his lanturn ASWELL (

) -sub quest 2 complete, main quest complete all in one fell swoop

all in all I'm happy and that was a fun fight, some advice when you start the quest make sure you fish the gobul onto the land and beat him around the tail, he swims ALOT slower without his tail and his tail whips are pretty useless aswell, then try focusing on smashing that damn lanturn, with that gone your pretty much home free

hopefully online will be back soon (haven't checked if it is yet) from maintenance I want to complete the straggling 1* quests I have and get onto beating that Barroth for my materials.

You should try killing Barroth, it is not that hard, it takes time, but it isn't hard. You just have to time your dodges really well.
I find it with similar difficulty to the Gobul.

Reinstall CIOS 249 v19, but use IOS 37 as the base.

Didn't work, still getting the same error... Anyone know what ports need to be open to play online?

Oh well, time to capture a Royal Ludroth...

I am actually able to go online and play with CIOS 222 or 223. Try that.

You should try killing Barroth, it is not that hard, it takes time, but it isn't hard. You just have to time your dodges really well.

Barroth is easy enough, Gobul at first I found hard but came back the next day (today) and beat the living hell out of it I'd do Barroth online (more fun and the drops seem to be improved) but I haven't unlocked it yet (online ofcourse).

right now I'm enjoying my new Switch Axe (Rough Eedge) it looks pretty cool and I beat Gobul down so fast with it (the sharpness is also much nicer compared to the Bone Axe+ (which I'll upgrade after I get the right mats but before that Barroth farm for sure I need new armour

I'm still not sure whether I'll keep upgrading my Bone Switchaxe+ or take a new series. I've heard the Uragaan axe is pretty good, but the affinity is rubbish. I'll probably get some Bahnabada(?) armor for the extra sharpness, that should really help with both my switchaxe and current hammer. Anyway, still have some qurupeco farming to do. Both hunting and capping him seem to barely give any materials.

Just made my first Longsword

ARRRG that fucking Hunter Killer quest WTF, klil a Great Jaggi AND a Barroth in 50 minutes SERIOUSLY WTF!

The Jaggi no problem at all I can beat it down in like 5 minutes the Barroth I spent an entire 50 minutes including attacks for the Qurupeco and Great Jaggi before it died, the fucker was still standing I failed because he wouldn't freaking die I've tried a mixture of weapons, Switch Axe, Hammer, Longsword and nothing will do it I've had that Barroth asleep (almost dead) twice in one try and it wouldn't die I hit it well over a 100 times I boosted my attack and my defense used a crap load of healing items and it WOULDN'T DIE!
I mean WTF HOW!!!!!

I still haven't done that quest because I only have weak weapons... T.T Almost got mats for the Lagiacrus' upgrade of the Bone Axe+ but it wasn't enough... T.T
Try boosting your stats with food from that cook guy. Maybe it will help!

I was boosted to the teeth, I beat barroth by itself before no problem in the other quest this one....IMPOSSIBLE.

EDIT:- it's annoying because the Lagiacrus looks really quite hard so I really want to beat this mission before I go and attempt to smack down the Lagiacrus.

Lol, go forward to the Urgent quest, it's not that hard since you'll not be able to kill it. Your mission is just to deliver some punches to it till it gets weak, then it will run away.

Farming Bnahabra armor is a major pain in the ass. You need two of the rarest carves a Altaroth can give and you need to get several Bnahabra carves. The problem is, if you kill them with your weapon they'll just be cut into pieces and you can't get a carve. I've spent pretty much all my iron making bomb casings and I'm farming toadstools to build posionbombs. These kill both Altaroth and Bnahabra and allow for a carve. I can only get about 7 carves per quest...

EDIT:
What the... Did 5 runs yesterday not getting a single item I need for the armor. Just killed a group of altaroth and got both of those rare carves I need. Killed two Bnahabra and both gave exactly the materials I need. Let's hope this luck continues

Meh, luck didn't continue. I'll go buy a sucky bowgun and use posion ammo. Much easier than posion bombs.

2 people and I was in Jaggi armour still

was great fun first time I gone up against it almost got Barroth armour now too, damn Barroth has become a pain in the ass

the cable on my USB keyboard has broken inside

now I need to find another old one to use that's hidden somewhere in the house

Changed weapon, changed tactic, Barroth and Great Jaggi down, Rathion down, Gigginox and Lagiacrus! ^^

Still need to go online... I want to do online!! T.T
