I love this guide and the help that lurks on this sticky tab . Thats hy i would like to payit forward and help other to the best of my ability

Once IOS36 has been patched, can it be used to install all .wad files?
The reason I ask is, in the WAD Manager step, is states that you press 1 then A to install them.
cIOS202[38+60]-v4.wad
cIOS222[38+37]-v4.wad
cIOS223[38]-v4.wad
cIOS249-v19.wad
cIOS250-v19.wad
IOS70-64-v6687[TB+ES_diV+NAND].wad

It does not mention to change the IOS. So I assume WAD Manager is using IOS36 to do this.
Just checking.

Wait.. do you update through the wii system menu first? when does the actual update to 4.2 happen?

The 4.2 update occurs when you install the system menu wad and the corresponding ios file for the system menu wad

(4.2U system menu wad =System Menu-NUS-v481.wad and the ios file it needs is = IOS70-64-v6687.wad)

Make sure you pay attention to the guide and install the ios70 before you install the system menu wad otherwise you could
end up with a brick

You can install both those files and the wii will show it has having 4.2U system menu although you still need to install all the other ios
files included in the update zip so your ios files will be up to date.

k, so I did the upgrade part and everything worked fine.

Now I'm trying to run hackmii again from the modify.zip but everytime I go to SD card menu my wii just freezes. (I go wii -> data management -> Channels -> SD)

look closer next time

Update to 4.2
Installing The Homebrew Channel & Bootmii
Run bannerbomb by going to the Settings, Data Management, Channels, SD Card & choosing yes to load boot.dol/elf

in case its not obvious, the "sd card menu" is the button on the main system menu on the bottom left that looks like an SD card

When on System Menu 4.2, the SD Card Menu that the tutorial is referring to, is the SD card icon on the main screen.

I am reading this & i saw this guide word from word on another site???? but with a couple of changes, im not saying you stole this guide.... i am just letting you know

I can guarantee xzxero's guide is his original work, the other site u referenced must be a copycat.

Maybe u should PM xzxero with a link to it, so he can deal with it however he wants to.

(@xzxero, dont forget that imitation is the highest form of flattery!)

...highest form of flattery, actually
Don't be mad at me, I had to be the one to break it to you
You get kicked into obscurity like judo, no Menudo
cause you pseudo, tryin to compete with reality like Xerox
Towards destruction you spiraling like hairlocks, wipe them teardrops
Chasing stars in your eyes, playing games with your lives
Now the wives is widows soakin up pillows, weepin like willows
Still mo' blacks is dyin, kids ain't livin they tryin
_How to Make a Slave_ by Willie Lynch is still applyin
Regardless, the Mos is one of my closest partners
Rockin ever since before Prince was called The Artist
Rocker before Funkmaster Flex was rockin Starter
When 'Pac and Biggie was still cool before they was martyrs
Life or death, if I'm choosin with every breath I'm enhancin
Stop, there comes a time when you can't run

Great guide!!!!! step by step no issues.....but after installing every disk i put in asks for a system update. the only thing that did not go as listed was when i got to

"Then proceed to install the remaining 22 different IOS files & Shopping Channel-NUS-v18.wad by pressing + on each one then 1 to install them. It should say 23 files will be installed"

it failed on ios 28-64-v1550. i tried to go back and reinstall and it still failed. Should i try to re download the files and re-install the ios?
i also have not put any apps on the system yet, i plan to use a usb loader. is this normal untill i load the apps? thanks for blessing us stupid ones with your wisdom....

also i just noticed that i left the game cube memory card in the whole time (smash head against wall) could this be part of my issue?

yes the gamecube memory card could interfere with the installation of WAD files.

use priiloader to block disc updates.

Would it be okay for WAD Manager to install all wad files using IOS36. I have read that WAD Manager needs to be using cIOS249 to install wads. I just would like to know what impact it would have by using IOS36 throughout the tutorial.

Thanks

Hi newbie here.

I get your guide untill the point Restoring the Trucha Bug, Removing Stub IOS´s, installing cIOS & Patching the system Meny IOS"

My stupid question is why not same guide as in http://sites.google.com/site/completesg/hacking-guide/trucha is this old info is suspect?

Here your guide says to start Multi-mod manager. but there is nothing about that in the link you provide, was reading it because wanted to read more detailed info.

thanks

There are some mismatches between the 2 tutorials.

xzxero's trying to make it as straightford and direct a possible with no fluff.

You should TRY and just follow the one guide.

If your new, just use the Complete Softmod Guide, and ignore xzxero's post, will be less confusing.

One you have it under control, the xzxero's is simpler, but less documented.

My guide uses Updated software, while this one uses the software that is the simplest to use (and the simplest to make guides for

).

For the rest, my guide gives a little more info than this one, but that's about it

Hi xzxero

Just like to say Thank you for your guide
Having never softmodded/chipped a console before (always paid someone to do it for me) I was nervous about doing it but following your guide to the T made it surprisingly simple and painless process in my humble opinion.

And a big Thank you to everyone involved in the development of MMM and all the software used in your guide.

Thanks again.
