Keep the bootmii folder on your SD card so you can launch it still. NeoGamma and Softchip should be in separate folders in the apps directory. All Homebrew apps are kept that way.
bootmii stays in the main root of the SD correct?
where as everything else would go into the apps directory?

OK, I have both Softchip and NeoGamma in my apps folder, and have no clue how to run them.

I thought I did this though bootmii or the sd card... nothing is happening.

Homebrew channel is useless once you're done modding, I was expecting to find Softchip and NeoGamma from within there....

IDK... such a newb I am, how do I access these... it really shouldn't be all that hard.

ok thanks my mistake, I thought you could only make a nand backup if you installed bootmii as boot 2

BTW there is no need to keep bootmii on the sd card as it will just keep showing everytime you switch on the wii and you only need it again if you have a problem.
With Bootmii IOS it doesn't show up every time. Keeping it on the SD is fine.

Correct and correct.

You open all Homebrew apps with the Homebrew Channel (HBC). Think of HBC as your new System Menu. You go there for all Homebrew stuff. You can also install custom channel to forward to Homebrew apps. I do this for all my most used apps and never have to enter HBC anymore.

HBC is not useless at all. You need it to run everything unless you have apps installed directly to the NAND but that takes up space.

My homebrew channel is showing the titledeleter, priiloader, restorer, and wad manager... and no other options to explore. I see a little gecko in the corner (not light up) and a light up earth. Pressing Home just goes back, no option to execute softchip or neogamma...

Press + or -. There are more pages.

Left and right does the same thing too.

I wish I could say that worked, but... the thing is ok when I see the homebrew channel in the original wii menu, I can scroll + or - and go through, but once I click Homebrew Channel and then click START it has a screen with the titledeleter, loader, restorer and wad manager... nothing I push will give me more options.

Should I try and uninstall and re-install the homebrew channel?

Okay but I was referring to + or - when in HBC and not in the Wii System Menu. If that doesn't work then you don't have apps placed correctly. It should be like the following:
SD:apps/NeoGamma/boot.dol,icon.png,meta.xml

OK, that may be it... I extracted it and didn't have it like that.

UPDATE: I downloaded a better Softchip that included the other 2 files, and got both it and NeoGamma working from Homebrew Channel! Thanks a bunch for the help eZ!

The .dol is all you need. .xml shows all the info you see on HBC and .png is just the icon. You can get them at here if you want. For the .xml just create a text file and paste the info I linked you into there. Save as .xml.

xzxero,

Everything went smoothly... my wii wouldn't allow a boot2 bootmii so I'm a bit concerned about that as it went to the IOS only. What is the point in backing up the IOS if there is no way to re-install it if something fails? Is it just so that if someone figures out how to do it in the future atleast the files will be available or what?

Why is it recommended to install system menu hacks if Bootmii is only installed as IOS? I just got to that part and would really like to know the advantages of that or if there is any hack I should absolutely install?? I want to do as little as possible since I have no escape route if something bricks.

Also what are things I should avoid doing to keep from bricking? My main concern is keeping it up to date so it can play all the latest games via backup copies. Now, tell me if I'm wrong... most original games come with the updates that are needed and will install automatically... and I shouldn't have to worry? Yes? No?

use preloader to stop updates from retail discs and nintendo. u need the hacks.ini file to set that and other things

This was a question I had before regarding that... I had heard that the disc updates were OK cause they were needed for some discs to run, but otherwise don't install direct Nintendo updates via the wii? So, if installing disc and wii updates is not a good idea how can you make sure your system will be able to run the newer games that may have different encryption? Are those things fixed in future NeoGamma and Softchip releases or are they updated in different areas of the wii??

Is it the IOS that needs to be updated at that point? I still don't understand all that much what files need to be updated in order to keep the most compatibility with current and future game releases...

If you followed this guide word for word then you're as up-to-date as it gets right now. It's best to disable both disc updates and online updates. Nintendo's updates from now on will most likely remove hacks. It's best to just stick with what you have. When Nintendo does update, just wait for the Wii hacking community prefect a way to update just like it always does.

Oh and in reference to the rest of your previous question, as you might've figured by now Bootmii IOS is pointless without Preloader/Priiloader installed. I believe Preloader/Priiloader can only help recover from banner bricks and system menu bricks but not all bricks like Bootmii as Boot2.

OK, I've enabled the following:

Replace Health Screen with Backmenu
Auto-Press A at Health Screen
Block Disc Updates
Block Online Updates

Some of the others I'm not too sure of is there a guide that explains what each one does in a little more detail?

I just do those 3 along with being able to move around the disc channel.

Replace Health Screen with Backmenu
Block Disc Updates
Block Online Updates

I dont do "Auto-Press A at health screen", it seems its the same thing as "replace health screen with backmenu" they both avoid you having to press A at the start.

I've just followed these steps, except downgrading, on a brand new 3.3u Wii and everything went perfectly well. Thank you!!

"Replace health screen with backmenu" totally removes the need for "Auto-press A at health screen". However, if you end up changing the health screen (for example, DarkWii shows a picture) then have only "Auto-Press A at health screen" be able to see it.

Hi, I've used the soft mode instruction, everything went fine but I have a problem now.

I can install Wiiware and VC on the console... I can also transfer them on the SD card... but when I go in the SD Card menu of the wii... and I see my VC or Wiiware I placed there... if I try to load it, it'll say that it couldnt read the Game... now if I try to transfer the game back to the wii, I'll get the same error.

I didnt updated to 4.2U since I already had the 4.1U and wanted to stick with it so I only made the MODIFY section. Could this be causing the problem of the SD Card?

Thanks!
