Preloader didn't install properly. Had to install .29 first, then could install .30 okay. Probably should be addressed in the guide...

Got a question if your Wii is on 4.1 should I update it to 4.2 and then do the hack?

Yes, that is exactly what the guide tells you to do. Just follow the guide exactly it will explain how to update via wad, and to add the correct IOS withing f'ing anything up. Trust in xyxyx.

Its just that I don't understand something. Should I update my Wii right now regularly. Or by doing that thing were it says on the Guide Update to 4.2
Follow this if your not on 4.2 yet, it will update all of your IOS's & System menu to the latest firmware.

It couldnt be more clear... If you are not on 4.2, follow those instructions to get to 4.2.

Generally you can take for granted that updating regularily via online updates or disc updates from nintendo is never a good idea. However in the case of a guide like this where it gives you clear update instructions and thousands of other wii's have been done using this method, its safe to say this method works, and works safely.

BEST guide ever. everything works perfectly now, even my old WiiD modchip + soft loaders etc.

What happenes if I just update the Wii to 4.2 online. The instructions here to update to 4.2 seems to take to long.

It takes about 2 minutes dude. I completed the whole guide on a virgin wii in about 10 minutes. Your problem is that you have no idea what you are doing.. =/

Sorry but I agree with the emperor
These instructions are ridiculously easy to follow.
Come on precompiled links?
It does not get easier than this!

I second this! Great work Xzxero and everybody involved! Though I would put more stress on "Read Every Word" instruction

It worked great for me without any problem.

Thanks once again!

I'm trying to Mod a Wii with a serial that begins with LU71748..... none of the guides seem to be working. I updated to v4.2 and followed the instructions but it seems to error out every time. Anyone have any suggestions on moding one with that serial number? How do I get back to the original system default settings and start from scratch? Thanks in advance!
your serial number is irrelevant.
what part of the guide is not working?
because i guarantee it works

How can I get back to the system defaults and start from scratch? The guide I had printed out is totally different then the one above. I'll give it a shot today... THANKS!

I am trying to get through this guide (excellent guide by the way) and keep getting a code dump. I am in the "Modify 4.2" section. I have downgraded IOS15, but the next section:
Run Trucha Bug Restorer
Choose IOS15 & press A. (Important)
Wait till it says Press 1 then press it.
Choose IOS36 menu. In there use these settings:

I keep getting code dumps....can anyone help me?

Thanks for the easy to use guide. I hadn't done any hacking since wad injecting has first been discovered. Since then my bros had updated the wii (against my commands). Now I have everything back as It should be, now with the USB loaders. My wii is finally complete

This is an excellent guide. I have two suggestions that would help with a couple of problems I had:

1) Add a note to the 4.2 update section to remind people that bannerbomb is launched differently with 4.2 than it was with the prior version. I know this is called out in the full guide, but it's easy to forget if you just upgraded from something less than 4.2.

2) In the NAND backup section, remind people that Bootmii won't run (crashes, actually) if you have a GC plugged in. This happened to me and it took a while to figure out what was happening. It might have been because I had a DDR game pad plugged in, maybe a regular GC won't do this, but it wouldn't hurt to mention it.

Run Trucha Bug Restorer

Choose IOS36 menu. In there use these settings:

on this step everytime i hit A it code dumps, help?

EDIT: nevermind worked after third attempt
