TO XZXERO, PLEASE READ THIS,,, Hi there, i wanna thank u for your effort to make the guide for Update our Wii offline to 4.2. SOME PEOPLE LIKE ME HAVE BRICKED THEIR WII (look post 2478 on page 166) cause on ur guide when u finished UPDATE 4.2 we are supposed to erase everything on the SD card and put all the files from Modify 4.2. Thats ok, but i think u should have mentioned that when we finished UPDATE 4.2 , WE ARE NO SUPPOSED TO TURN OUR WII OFF to take the SD card , i did that and ended up bricking my WII, the same way user on post 2478 bricked his WII , or im missing something here???? I got my WII back today from Nintendo repair service and i whant to follow ur guide cause i have no wireless access point , but i DONT WHANT TO BRICK MY WII AGAIN . Look at page 146 post 2182 where i quoted u .

Are you sure u followed the update guide precisely. when i modded my wii a few days ago i turned it off after the update to 4.2 and everything was fine. did you install the ios70 then system menu, then the other 25 wads? did u use the right region?

If I use cIOSCORP on 4.2U, will I brick my wii?

If u do not have preloader and bootmii as an IOS installed or bootmii as boot2 then its best to stear clear of cIOSCORP. If you read the readme u should generally be fine. the readme is lengthy but if u want to install it safely it is imperative that u read it. I have been directed against it as it can be lethal to your wii. If you don't know what you're doing or why then don't use it. its much safer just to use a backup launcher(neogamma, or softchip), which is much safer and has a better game compatibility.

I been trying to play Sonic Cd on Sonic Gems Collection (NTSCJ) and I get that disc read error. Any way I can play my favorite game?

Are you trying to launch it through the disc channel? You should download neogamma from the link on xzxero's guide and run it through the homebrew channel. You need a modchip or cIOSCORP v3.5 to run the games through the disc channel but both are not recommended so i would just use neogamma(as i do

). It has the best game compatibility.

The backup I made

How are you trying to run your game. Through the disc channel? If so then do you have a modchip or cIOSCORP? If not then you will get a disc read error. If you run it through neogamma via the homebrew channel then it should work, both of my sonic games play perfectly. Otherwise you may need to burn it to a disc at a different speed. Make sure your using DVD-r discs too.

When I boot it through Neogamma, I get a green screen. How do I fix that problem?

What region is your wii? What region is the game you are trying to play? From what i've read a green screen means the game is from the wrong region but im not 100% sure on this.

If both the wii and the game is from US then im not sure what the problem is. The only solution i can think of is to burn it at a different speed. Sorry i couldn't help.

The game is japanese, my wii is us

Theres your problem right there.... You need to find a backup for your game with the same region as your wii. as your wii is NTSC then you need a backup thats also from that region.

Thanks for the effort, however this guide doesn't work for me.

When I try the modify section, I run Trucha Bug Restorer, choose B and then Downgrade IOS15.
When I try to run Trucha Bug Restorer again using IOS15, when I press A I get a DSI error screen. Any ideas?

I am in the same area... I skipped the TBR steps like it stated if you get stuck and unable to do anything in the ATD. I get an error on anythign I try to do.

just want to say THANKS for this guide, just got done using it to mod a virgin 4.2U wii! havent tried loading a backup disc yet, but the n64 and snes emu's work great!

first of all xzxero's guide worked great on a virgin 4.2U system

...thank you!! but i just want to ask. why does anyone burn games these days? the usb and sd card loaders work great. don't get me wrong, i have hundreds of backups for the turbo duo on up to the dreamcast. but if i could connect a hdd to any of those old systems i would do it in a heartbeat. the usb loaders for wii seem to work flawlessly (even better then mcboot/usbloader on ps2, which works pretty damn good). why go though the trouble of trying to get a good batch of media, burning games , and having stacks of discs everywhere?
