I upgrade my 3.4u to 4.2u. First I took my old nand.bin backup in order to clean the wii. I uninstalled the HBC, dvdx and bootmii. Upgrade trhough Nintendo to 4.2u, then carefully follow your 4.2u guide. Now I'm a happy user

robotron, I think you may have just lost bootmii as boot2 (assuming u had it b4). The official nintendo update updates your boot2 to boot2v4, which doesn't allow you to install bootmii as boot2. You're lucky the ninty update didn't brick your wii, as a lot of that is going around these days. I am personally curious to see if you were to restore your 3.4 backup of your nand, if you would be able to install bootmii as boot2 again... I doubt it, I think you lost it for good. Next time, just remember never to update through ninty.

i followed all the instruction in softmodding my wii and everythings works fine except mplayerce i dont know whats wrong i tried to reinstall mg wii two times but i got the same problem. did you experience the same problem or its just me? i have lu65 wii

if boot2 can be installed, it can always be installed, no matter what.

it is true though that the nintendo update does remove your boot2.

yeah thats what the report syas. it changes boot 2 to boot 2v4 and makes it so you cant hack it....yet?
no, your misunderstanding.
it writes over your boot2, so technically you have no bootmii and brick protection once you update via nintendo.
but when you run bannerbomb and run the hackmii installer, you can then restore your boot2 capabilities if you had them in the first place.

But if i use Hackmii Installer 0.5, Update Boot2 and install Bootmii and then Update, Bootmii should be still there or am i wrong?

wrong. the nintendo update removes boot2, should your stepsshould be like
Hackmii Installer 0.5, update HBC and then Update. Hackmii Installer 0.5 and install Bootmii

but theres no reason to update to 4.2 anyways.

hi xflak40! my wii came 3.4u out of the box, so i didn't have boot2. I've been using preloader. but is a important warning for those with it.

xzxero, thanks for the info... I was under the assumption that it was the boot2v4 that was stopping the newer wii's from installing bootmii as boot2. If it's not boot2v4 thats stopping it, what is? Reason I ask is that I was secretly hoping someone (like team twiizers) would be able to figure out how to install bootmii as boot2 on newer wii's with boot2v4. But if boot2v4 isn't the problem, what is?

OK i did this and I have a problem.....how do i get back to the Wii Channel menu? You know the one after the safety screen?

All I can access now is Preloader and HBC.

This has made playing games much harder than before...this is my 10y/o sons wii and hes going to be very upset when he gets home frome school....can someone help me fast?

You need to set preloader up properly under its settings menu. If you have autoboot set up for HBC and return set up as preloader then you will never get to your system menu. A better configuration would be to leave "autoboot: hbc" for brick safety and then "return to: sysmenu" instead of preloader or HBC where it currently is. That way even though you start in the HBC you can exit it and return back to the sys menu.

is GC controller complusory if i were to update from 3.4U to 4.1?

No, but you'll need it to run the MIOS patcher for Gamecube backups, and to create a BootMii NAND backup if you can only do an IOS type of BootMii installation.

It's highly recommended that you have one.

make sure NAND emulator is set to disabled, then choose wii sd slot.
