Every time my computer boots up, it prompts me to install the WGA Notification software. (Windows Genuine Advantage) Basically this is spyware by MS. Does anyone know how to disable this prompt. So far it hasn't tampered with any windows functions, but it's hella annoying during the booting process.

this was installed during an update process, and the only way i know how to get rid of it is to not install it at all!

what you can try is to restore a backup-point. if xp downloads updates again, uncheck the WGA update, and check 'never ask again for this update'.

hope that helps.

I think you can disable the notification by going to accessories, system tools and then scheduled tasks and removing the notification from there. Just a guess though.

I have XP but never got this notification?

Maybe because I

PAID FOR MY FREAKING OS AND DID NOT PIRATE IT!
OS's are the one thing I refuse to pirate.

@OP: trying dling another xp, and running a repair. if that doesn't work, then backup and do a fresh install.

Look around your fav downloading places for a windows WGA crack. This will make your windows a bit more legit.

Agreed, gtfo.

You can get cracks which do it, i've also heard of a program, "mublinder" or something: http://www.p2plife.com/forums/Official_muB..._Page-t320.html

Turn off automatic updating and pay attention to what you are updating and you wouldn't have installed it to start.

I've had a pirated version of XP running on my laptop for 2 years, i have done that genuine advantage check thing, no problems at all

On Topic, search for WGA Removal, you'll get what your looking for.

Go to your favourite Buccaneer-themed torrent site and type "WGA Crack" and grab/run the one by ChattChitto. If your desktop wallpaper etc have also been disabled (WGA eventually does this if it thinks you have a pirate copy) then you can correct the registry changes using a free program called "Dial a fix"

If it prompts you to install it (via windows update etc) - turn on automatic updates and notify but don't install, wait for an update notification shield, go into custom install, uncheck the update, and tell it to not remind you about the update not installed.

If WGA is warning about counterfeit software, Neversoft already explained the procedure.

I've gotten this warning window a dozen times on legal copies of Windows and I've seen pirate copies without any software tricks passing WGA without problems. Yay keygens.
