Gaming Microsoft banned me rant

This is the problem with the age of digital downloads and DLC. You never *own* anything you buy online, you're just renting it from them and then they can cut that access off at any point either through a ban or some other means. (Like I bought a game from the PSN, they removed the game from the store for no reason, I was never refunded and it just vanished from my account). It's because of this and bans that I'm not doing digital downloads unless there's absolutely no digital copy available, simply because one day an incident like this might take place and I end up losing everything.

Really sucks though OP this action is pretty appalling, you tried to get things lifted and they basically told you to suck out.

The problem I have now is, I'm stuck with this useless console that I have no idea what to do with. I guess I'll just play through my backlog of games in single player now that I don't have achievements to bug me.

I also like that any Xbox Live membership you have left is not refunded. Luckily I only had 3 months left on my current subscription.

I plan on calling in next week and bugging them about my credit card linked to that profile. Sure no one can access my account and purchase anything with it (which has happened before and took me 3 freaking months to get my account back because Microsoft literally could not be bothered to hit the letter "O" on the their keyboard), but it's still on file in a database somewhere on their computer. And those never get hacked, lol.

If you payed with a credit card, call your bank and ask that they do a chargeback.

Funny that they would ban you for simply creating a new account and downloading a game but the do not ban all the misogynist, homophobic, foul-mouthed little pishers using voice chat on Xbox Live.

This kinda sucks when it happens and the punishment there dishing out to me does not fit the crime at all, they should have just revoked the games in question not flat out ban the account, stating it was a last resort is rather bullshit.

What confuses me is why bother THIS LATE into the 360's life cycle where its about to be replaced as there primary console with the XBone...

But as well all know sometimes Microsoft =/= Logic

What annoys me the most is that for MS there's only three kinds of punishment: console ban, GT ban and suspension. If you just troll/cheat/whatever online you can get your entire console banned for it (not sure about GT, but that would be even worse as you'd lose all your games) instead of just banning your account from multiplayer like Steam does.

Steam normally in this situation would remove the offending games from the account

Even Nintendo apparently does that. (there was this one guy who abused the SMTxFE promotion and got tons of 30$ credit on his account. The games he bought with it were removed as well)

Post your story on every social network that you're a member of and hope it goes viral. Maybe also blog it.
This.

I'd send this story (complete with emails 'n' stuff) to Kotaku, CVG and every big gaming site/blog out there. Some just love to get material to bash companies, so they'll listen to you.

It's worth a try, maybe public opinion will side with you and they'll have to bend to public pressure, along with a nice Star Wars Limited Edition 360 as a gift :yay:

Kotaku actually posted an article back when the bans happened, but their stance was that the bans were justified.

I have emailed The Consumerist, but they seem uninterested in the story.

And people ask me why I don't have an Xbox 360. T'would be a shame if you were to "accidentally" hack your console and pirate games on your 360 and brag about it on their Twitter.

I'd love to see Xbox Live shut down, but it's not going to happen any time soon.

Ahh dude I feel you.
So many stories regarding Xbox live ban.. but its not uncommon.

I cancelled my Xbox One pre order yesterday :)
PS4 still pre-ordered and the only console I will stick with for next gen. (well, already have the WiiU... so I guess PS4 and Wii U)

OK, so I booted into my Windows 8 for the first time since my ban. My banned profile can access the Windows Store, but I can't update any of my apps or download new ones. This includes the Windows 8.1 update, since it's technically an app download from the store. Awesome.

I switched to my second account I made in Windows for boosting some multiplayer achievements and had my main account's store profile linked to it. So I only had to buy the game once and both profiles could download it and play them that way. Amazingly, through my second account with my linked store profile, I can redownload all my apps and update them.

This helps me in no way, besides letting me update Windows 8 and play games I have already completed, but still, it's weird I can still access my Windows 8 games this way.

How many/what games did you download before getting your shiz banned?

I believe the Oman marketplace had:
Bloodforge
Capsized
Dragon's Lair
Dungeon Fighter Live
Flashback
Mars: War Logs
Unbound Saga
Dark (Retail game)
Injustice: Gods Among Us (Retail game)

And the Morocco marketplace had:
Ikaruga
Sonic Adventure
WRC Powerslide

I think there were some others but, they either required Kinect or I already owned them.
