Try an put it in a digital camera or a mobile phone and format it in it. That sometimes does the trick

and i dont have a digital camera
i remmber someone in this forum posted some program to format microsd cards
can someone link me to such program?

Windows and my R4 would not detect my 2gb micro SD. I Put it in my Phone Formatted it and it work in windows but only showed up as 1gb then i used the SDFormatter Version 2.0 and it corrected the size back to 2gb reload my games and firmware and it has been working fine ever since. I would say try and find a friend with a micro SD slot on a phone or camara or use a mini SD adaptor in your phone.

Are you using the lame microSD card reader that came with the R4?

Did your card come with an SD adapter? Like this?

If you have an SD card reader, then try using that adapter instead and then report back.

The posts about using another microSD card reading device to format it is a good one too, but once you do you should use Windows to format again. Those other devices are too dumb to prohibit formatting due to corrupt data on the card. Sometimes Windows interprets that corruption as defective hardware or absence of hardware and then refuses to recognize it. Therefore you can't format it.

It's rather difficult to permanently damage a flash memory card without subjecting it to severe electric (static spark, stick it in a light socket, etc...) or physical abuse (bend or crush it). Simple software commands or data corruption are not likely to destroy it.

These little buggers are pretty close to indestructable.

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who posted advice here - this thread just saved my bacon.

My R4 and Japanese Kingston have both been perfect ever since I got them.

That was until about 630 this morning.

I plugged the reader into my main pc and out of habit backed up the saves [thank heavens].

Then I copied a few games to it - Eye training, children of mana.

All seemed fine as usual.

Then when I tried to load Eye training [it was the American version] the R4 froze on the creating sav screen the green bar stopped moving. I left it for a while, no dice. Then tried resetting, no luck. So I turned off and on , R4 got to the loading screen then crashed. Next time it didnt get that far.

Put the card back in the pc with the aim of formatting, got the message "please insert disc".

Tried it on the wifes tower and both of our laptops, got the same bloody message.

Tried formatting it in a camcorder, no good. Tried her mobile, which at first didnt like it, then it formatted it into 2 partitions a gig each.

Connected it with a different reader with the big black SD adaptor seen on Striderx's image, and windows kept reading it again and again no luck.

Put it in the original R4 reader, was recognised right away with the mobiles directory inside saying it was 1 gig.

Used the SDformatter program which wiped it and resized it.

Took a long breath, not expecting much and the format worked!

Copied the latest R4 firmware, all of my saves and all the games I'm currently playing... and

Its all back to normal!

Will be buying a decent branded reader next week in TCR that's for sure!

So, erm just wanted to vouch for the advice given here, definitely worked for me and I really appreciate finding out here how to sort this headache out!

I just tried the sd formatter on my t629's micro sd card and it told me that the memory card is write protected

. Well it's not big of a deal anyways cause it was only 32MB and that's not much space for putting songs on and I hardly ever listen to songs on my phone.
