alt dol does work with the renaming but I also had to turn ON "Block IOS Reboot" in usb loader GX to get it to load. I only tried with Metroid Prime 2: Echoes

Hi All,

Quick question here. If I manually strip out all of the .DOL files from the game and store them on my SD Card, and change my settings to read from the SD Card instead of from disk, wouldn't I then be able to select any of the Metroids and they will play? Or will this not work?
Using GX it doesn't work
The only working method that i found was (loading from a HDD not a disc) installing Configurable USB Loader, run the game and choose the settings that you want to play then turn of your wii, and go to options in the CFG loader choose alternate dol and choose one of this dol to enter the respective game: s5mp1_p is Prime 1, re5mp2_p is Prime 2,rs5mp3_p is prime 3 (prime 3 doesn't work on CIOS 14) you have to do that every time you and to boot the game
Haven't find out a way to load the multiplyer.
BTW does the MP2 echoes does not support 480p? using this method the resolution changed to 480i

Au contraire.
Metroid works perfectly well on GX using that method alucard mentioned at least it does for me on cios rev 9 and a GX rev around 600. Of course the .dol to be played has to be changed to R3ME01 on the sd card. To get a save game first the main.dol needs to be extracted too and also put on the sd card and initially changed to R3ME01. It will obviously only play one game at a time however and different game would need the relevant .dol changed to R3ME01 with the previous one changed back to its original name or at least no longer R3ME01 for obvious reasons.

In LoaderGX, click on Metroid Prime Trilogy and choose Settings. Click on "alt dol" until it says "DOL from Disc" (or something similar) and new option should menu immediately below it. Click on this option and you should be presented with (IIRC) a choice of 4 .dol files, one of which is the menu screen whilst the other 3 point to the 3 games.

This has worked!

So here is what i did, sence i have the actual game disc, using USB Loader GX

1-Ripped the game to the External HD.
2-Select the game, but instead of playing the game select settings.
3-Select game load, select Alternate DOL until DOL from disc is displayed
4-under Alternate DOl it should say DOL from disc and there should be 4 options.
rs5fe_p is the main menu. You are required to play this first to create a save file.
rs5mp1_p is Prime 1
re5mp2_p is Prime 2
rs5mp3_p is prime 3

select what game you want to play, and it will boot your save from the selected game.

ENJOY!

OK - so I tried this verbatim and all I get is a blank screen after I select play. Did you change any of the other default settings? I have 002 fix on and back ios on as well. Maybe I didn't update a rev? What exactly is your setup?

wouldn't you then need to manually change the dol everytime you want to play a different metroid? Seems like a lot of trouble. See my post above - this way seems to be much easier but it's not working for me.

Rather than manually rename the dol each time, just make a dol for all three & place them in separate folders on the SD. I have the folders MP1, MP2, and MP3 on my SD - with each containing the respective dol renamed to R3ME01. Then all I have to do to switch games is change the last number in the dol path setting.

To everyone who is having trouble getting the game to work:

Just buy it. It's a great deal, and one that is completely worth spending $50 on.

i would if it wasn't released 2 months later here! been playing mp1 all day and loving it just got up to the jump boots.

Ok here is how I got Metroid Prime Trilogy to work. And many are asking if the alt-dol method works. Yes it does.
Here is my setup. System Menu 4.0 with cios verison 38 rev 14. I know some are saying usb loader gx should work. I could not get it work for the life of me. I tried dol from disk and sd. Gx gave me and error message that it said may help the development team. More on this in another post....

I have had success using Neogamma RC7 with alt dol. First you must extract rs5mp1_p.dol, rs5mp2_p.dol and rs5mp3_p.dol from the game ISO. Each one is the dol for Metroid 1,2 or 3. Choose which one you want to play and rename it to R3ME01.dol and put it in SD:\\Neogamma\ folder on your sd. Load Neogamma and choose Alt-dol and load Metroid Prime Trilogy now which ever game dol you choose should load.

I hope this is of help to someone.

For me, the only USB loader that worked with the alternate dol was cfg loader, thank you to the person that suggested that. I tried USB loaderGX from SD and from disc and got either a black screen or a code dump. Tried ULoader 2.8 with no luck.

OK - so you're using USB loader GX correct? Do you put the MP1, 2 3 folders on the root of your SD? How do you change the path setting for the dol?

I just tried MP1 using the alternate dol from disc stuff in USB Loader GX, and it worked, but my TV says it's in 480i as well. Is anyone else having this problem?

I'm not sure why people are still using USB LoaderGX. According to the wiki, Configurable USB Loader has every feature that GX has and then some. This isn't to say that GX is a bad piece of software (it most certainly is not), but CFG loader seems to be in the lead, in a side by side comparison.

It is very easy to get this game working in Configurable USB loader. Just run the game normally first, select a Mii, create a save. Exit and run the loader again, turn alt dol on for the game, and save settings. Now when you run the game, before it begins you can select the dol for the game you want to play (1, 2 or 3). Luckily this was an easy alt dol fix

My final solution to getting MP3 working with GX. I'm using GX r715, cIOS r14, and Hermes cIOS 222 r3 installed as 37-36.

Set global options in GX to use cIOS 222 & 002 fix to On.

Set game options to use cIOS222 and block IOS reload to On.

You MUST use alt.dol from disc to get MP3 working.

Select the rs5mp3_p.dol from the list & exit saving the changes. Make sure you have a disc in the Wii's drive and start the game.

Enjoy!

Remember that using the alt.dol from disc method requires you to re-select the dol each time GX is restarted or you want to change games.

You can use either the alt.dols from disc or from SD, but to get MP3 working I have the game settings to video=autopatch (not sure if necessary), cIOS=222, 002 fix=on, block iso reload=on.

Now, make sure you have no disc in the Wiis drive & load the MP3 dol using the method of your choice. When it asks to insert the Metroid Prime Trilogy disc - just put in any disc you want and the game will load. If you have a disc in the drive BEFORE you load the dol it will not work.

Enjoy!

I'll have to ry this. Thank you for posting the settings for MP3.

I got mp1 and mp2 working easily using alt dol. BUT mp3 was giving an eject disk error. I'm using 1 up release and rev14 cios. Hopefully this will work.

I have original mp3 installed and had taken it off my HD, but added it back after I couldnt get the trilogy version to work. I also have mp1 and mp2 for gamecube, but want to play them using the Wii controls, BUT I'm not convinced this is worth the purchase price of the trilogy. If you havent got one of the episodes then it is worth getting.

The "disc eject" error people are getting on MP3 is a direct result of the DL issue with cIOSrev14. To fix, either:

1. Install Hermes cIOS222/223 and use that to run the game
2. Downgrade your cIOS to rev13
3. Simply wait for the next Waninkoko release which will hopefully fix the issue

I made some changes to my method, see my original post. The most important is that You MUST use alt.dol from disc for MP3 to work.
