The 3DS wont have homebrew in about 3-6 years if ever. And if it's compatible with old DS games flashcarts should work on it.

Firstly, not everyone will own a 3DS (sad I know). Secondly, people will still play on their old flashcards. It still has a use, but because of the 3DS, it's not as useful.
