Hacking Megadrive emulator

Hi, is it possible to get this onto a channel of its own? Like the snes emulator, or does it always have to be loaded from the SD Card? Can anyone explain why the Mame emulator does not even show up in homebrew channel? Yet it's under apps on the sd card same as the other emulators?? That's what I want most for pacland and wonder boy.
And one final question can the apps be run from a USB 8gb flash stick instead of the sd card?
