They have this picture, which I find interesting. Apparently they resized the circlepad so that now it's equal in size to the one on the 3ds.

*snip image*
Hmm....are you sure about that? When was the circle pad ever smaller than the 3DS one?

If you're saying it looked smaller in the first images that popped up, I think it was always the same size but looked smaller because of the way the pictures were scanned.

Why the slider pad though? It also doubles the shoulder buttons, something everyone keeps forgetting.

I see a redesign with 4 shoulders and two slid pads in the 3DS' feature

I'm no fan of the slider pad but to everyone complaining about how their power paks aren't compatible with the slider pad, deal with it. It shouldn't be a first party's obligation to compensate for a third party accessory that probably not a lot of people have. I seriously doubt a majority of 3DS users have one and it is Nintendo's product, not Nyko's.

Still, I think the Slider Pad is really just shooting yourself in the foot (yes, I said the same thing about the Vita and the Sony battery pack, I'm equal opportunity). It kinda shows that Nintendo didn't think this out really well and realized that they should've put a second analog stick on it. So they'll make people pay extra for their mistake. I know it's not "mandatory" but how many games that support dual analog will play well with a single analog? It's gonna become pretty mandatory to some extent if you want to play certain games effectively.

Well since the next revision will obviously have the slider pad built into it, well how would they manage to make the L2 and R2 buttons built in?
I don't think the revision will even have 2 analogs. No reason why... but just feel that way. (even though it does seem kinda obvious)

God, if I ever get a 3DS I might be forced to use this atrocity. DAMN MY LEFT-HANDEDNESS.
I'm left handed too, and have had no trouble controlling anything yet on my 3DS- years of playing home consoles has preprogrammed me. The only game that MAY be an issue without it is Kid Icarus Uprising, as it appears to use a bizarre control system

I see this thread rapidly became another "Nintendo are idiots" thread. I'm with Guild on this one though (sort of)- both Sony and Nintendo have created something that at least someone feels needs a bit adding to it

Pretty much this as well. Also largely agrees with Guild.

Pretty much true, MGS3D according to some control badly without that 2nd pad.

But if games are like MH3G, then it'll be no problem.

you guys know what sounds even better? that Nintendo actually sticks to this and only this hardware design and totally NOT do any revisions.

the 2nd analog pad was dropped for a reason. heck, 3D touch screen was dropped for a reason.

i seriously hope that Nintendo proves all those expecting a hardware revision wrong.

i'll gladly swallow every word i said though if they make a revision that IMPROVES the camera significantly, like not just higher resolution/megapixel and shit, but better sensors, jampacked upgraded 3DS Camera application with tons of kickass filters, prolonged exposures (for making those light art photos), center-weighted exposures with optional gradiated blurring, improved macro shot clarity, the whole fucking shebang.

When will nintendo come up with hardware that doesn't involved an after market prostethic. Maybe is the Asian rice rocket culture

There isn't a single games console in history that doesn't have after market addons. Even as far back as the consoles in the 1970 had extra 'unneeded' doodads released to 'enhance' gameplay. This is not and never has been a 'Nintendo thing'.

PSmove, Eyetoy, Kinect, MegaCD, 32x etc...
Bloody Nintendo and their add-ons

Did any of you guys ever think that Nintendo was pushed into making the slide pad by developers? They obviously had enough faith in one slide pad for 2+ years. It was also know to those who followed the 3ds since the beginning that the system would have one slide pad since E3 2010. I don't think for one second that they "realized they made a mistake." That's just the usual jumping to conclusions. If you ever read the Iwata asks, he and the designers of the 3ds already answered the questions on why the battery life sucks and why the second pad isn't there. This is why I get pissed of at the people saying "hurr durr they should of had this and that since the beginning." It gets really annoying because these people don't know what the fuck they are talking about

This is part of the reason why I think that the slider pad has something to do with the Wii U.

Especially when the control layouts are pretty much very similar.

Well ok. Maybe you can carry that around easily?

3DS as for now is full to the casing. Nothing else would have fit anyway...

Meh it doesn't look very comfy...
What is happening with nintendo -_-

If you look up a hands-on on google or something you'll discover that the thing isn't all that bad.
You cant judge the accessory just by looking at a picture. The thing has controller like grips, so the pad is held like a WiiU or Wii Classic controller.
People who actually held the slider pad and 3DS in person say it's suprisingly comfortable. It may look deformed and/or shitty but it isn't.
(I was a slider pad hater too at first when I saw it the first time)

My stance hasn't changed on it - if a game that I want requires it, I'll get it. If not, I probably won't.

Just a thought though...this thing, it connects via IR, right? Do you think we'll be seeing 3rd party versions, then? Because if so, I think it'd only be a matter of time until we see one that's minamilistic in design - instead of adding the grip, it'd probably be just the circle pad and the 2 additional triggers.

Probably. I'm thinking maybe a 2-in-1 expansion: the slider and an extended life battery. It would mount in place of the current battery like that Nyko battery pack.

I suppose that'd also be wanted, but I was thinking something like this:

unled1ugc.png

Where the extra slider would snap onto the front of the 3DS via a plastic connection, and then the plastic strips running behind it meet with the bracing that'd hold the needed electronics for the two extra buttons. It doesn't add much to the size at all, and while it doesn't add that extra comfort value like the Slider Pad does, I think it'd work well for those that just want the extra stick and buttons without all of the bulk

thts actually a good design windaga but i doubt that position is good. also the connections would tend to be weak themselves and put stress on the already weak nintendo hinge.

they should have used a single letter like slide p or like the wii u, it could have been slide u

Windaga, that design doesn't account for the thickness of the slider's inner workings. The slider thing would have to be at least half an inch thick. And you'd have to remove the whole add-on every time you closed the console.
