I recently downloaded GeeXbox to play a video off the USB drive I have plugged into the back of the Wii. I picked this one because it appeared to be the easiest one to set up. Anyways, I put it on the SD card, and put the video (.m4v file) on the USB drive. After starting up the movie, it stutters about every 5 seconds, making watching the movie doable, but rather irritating.

I tried going through the options to see if there was a setting I could fix to make the movie play correctly, but can't figure out what the different options mean, and the settings I tried changing didn't work. I'm starting to think that I might be better off replacing it with a different program.

That's where this topic comes in. What program do you guys personally use and would recommend to me for the best playback? I have no idea on the differences between them, and need a bit of help picking one out.

WiiMC is the only mediaplayer for Wii still being developed. When you learn how to use WiiMC, then check out vlc-shares for WiiMC.
