Hardware Mayflash GameCube adapter work as hori control?

So I know that the mayflash GameCube adapter makes the switch thinks it's a hori pad. is that the same for Wii U? a friend wants to play wind waker with a GameCube controller. Would it work?

(Yes I know that it works with one only one port)
