Hi everyone! I've been installing a few Mario Kart Wii hacks recently, but only custom track distributions because those were the only hacks which came with ISO patchers. However, besides one hack, there are no MKW hacks with ISO patchers which include custom characters. The hack that I know does feature two custom characters and an ISO Patcher is restricted to online play with friends, which makes it practically useless to me.

Therefore, I wanted to ask if 1. anyone knows of MKW hacks with ISO patchers which include custom characters and 2. if there is an easy way to put custom characters from GameBanana in a Mario Kart Wii ISO without using Riivolution or just going into the game files and replacing files manually. I have tried going into .szs files and replacing the files myself, but the application i was using to go into the szs files wouldn't let me save my changes, and I couldn't find a reliable tool to recompress the wbfs file. Wiimms ISO/wbfs tools are way too complicated for a noob like me

I don't know if you are still looking for an answer, but you can use wii scrubber over the ISO to replace a specific file in the wii, so just download the model, and look for it on wii scrubber, you need setting up first, I did it a long time ago, I will need to seach a bit.

Here's the thing

I've already tried both Wiiscrubber and Cygwin ISO compiler, but as They were only designed for the whole process to actually produce results in Dolphin, both messed up when it came to actually run the game on console.
when you actually replace a character you gotta pay attention to the deepest of things like the animation, the pictures, the files replaced and their impact on adding or merging up the game's memory. and game's memory is fundamental when you actually want to run it.

I've replaced Dry Bowser and Baby Peach and the result was complete crash of the game when I ran it on my Wii, the console ended up shut down, instant power off that wasn't expected. Because its best to make sure that they don't end up adding one more KB to the memory of the whole game its hard to even make a replacement inside the .szs files and their contents, so I was balantly replacing the files as they appeared in every folder :

- Demo
- Race/kart
- Scene/model/Kart
- Sound (and there you have to make changes into the compiled revo_Kart.brsar which contains all sounds of every character)

But that was far from actually achieving anything because the game itself didn't run well at all.

Changing a character for Mkwii console in the end isn't really worth it, because when you run the WBFS file afterwards the console just shuts down as the game actually "crashed". that's enough proof your game was badly compiled, and the other issue is that Wiiscrubber has a memory restriction on the whole ISO when you even attempt to replace any file in deep. Because if the file replacement is successful you gotta have to worry about the game crashing later on, even then the files have been strictly compiled with deeper intention of never being able to replace them probably ever again unless you have experience in computer science or an actual degree in game developping.
