I know the servers are being slammed but any clue when we might be able to connect? I get errors through eshop, Mario Kart online all sections and Miiverse. Are there a lot of people having issues? I know my internet works due to testing it on the Wii U, getting on the browser.

Alright I read around and a ton of people are having this issue. The only fix (kind of) is enabling DMZ in your router for the Wii U ip. That didn't work for me but it is working for others. Just letting everyone know if they are having problems.
