Hacking mario kart by usb works fine but disc wont?

me and my friend have 2 identically modded wiis, but he uses discs and i use usb .... but he cant play mario kart, it goes past the safety screen then comes up with a disk read error ..... is there some trick to get this game working?

disc wont work in both wiis, but all other disc games do,

reburnt to different brand discs at different speeds

plays fine on both wiis via usb
