There isn't a need to use USB/SD other than convenience. I'm not how appswitching works (with foreground and background) but it might be possible to inject code to load files from Smash or w/e once the kernel has been exploited, then switch to another app and have those files be patched in, but the main way you'd be using the kernel exploit is downloading the files to memory and then patching those in once you've switched to the game you want to patch. That's the closest you're gonna get to Riivolution until a loader exploit is made and it's possible to install content to the system (HIGHLY UNLIKELY)
