Hi all, thanks in advance for any helpfull info at all. Was muckin around my 3ds XL and I seem to have misplaced... And by that I mean accedentally desoldered and lost a tiny surface mount something off my main board.

If anyone has any board diagrams, or just so happens to know what I knocked off here... I know it's kinda a long shot but it's been sitting for months now and my skills and equipment have improved, so I thought I'd give it a shot.

(Oop, can't link to an Img, I have one if requested) it's the left of the two teeny tiny black rectangles directly above the X pad.

Thanks again if you're even reading this, I'm not sure I'm in the right place but I've been looking around for a minute, this place seemed at least close-ish ^.^

I'm on my phone, but its fairly obvious here, tried to crop out my embarrassingly bad old soldering but the X pad is showing for reference

Gave it's brother there a probe, reading about 125k ohm resistance, might be messing that up, and I don't know enough to know if a cap would give a similar reading, don't have a capacitance meter I can test that little guy with

From the images I've seen, I'd say that was a cap. See if it's connected between a known 1.8V/3.3V/5V and ground. If it is, it's probably just a filtering cap and not strictly needed.

I still have no idea which 3DS XL model I'm looking at, new or old. Take readings of the neighboring resistors. If they're all within ballpark readings, you'll probably going to take a leap a faith of replacing the lost one with their average. You can try holding off until someone chimes in with double blind measurements of theirs. Might have a better time asking at the hard modders thread for that info.

Edit - Here's the thread. Someone should have a board laying around.
Edit 2 - Yah, I'll have to agree with @bobmcjr. That doesn't look like a resistor but capacitor.

Mmm, I was really hoping for that... I had heard about something like that regarding CPUs of all things, definitly part of why I dug it out.

Looks like bad news tho, i can't seem to get cont to ground on either side :\ thank you for that test tho

Thanks both of you for your help and patience so far :) @TurdPooCharger I borked my PC and have been tryin to recover all day, but I'll get a proper picture with readings edited in up as soon as I get back up

Edit - I can just post in the thred you linked once I've got everything together if that's better. What info/area do I need to make sure to include show board version for sure?

Alright, so you have an Old 3DS XL motherboard. The New ones have separate daughterboard for the right side buttons.

Here's a blown up picture of the entire O3DSXL front side. This is the best I could find.

If you look closely enough, the two SMD next to one another do NOT appear be the same. Look at their colors of black vs tan.

You'll want to measure the far left and far right to verify which is which and whether they have different values.

For the still present SMD that's next to the missing one, (which I think is the left one at the center), compare it's value to the right tan capacitor?? *

OKAY, the center right black SMD is still present. Whichever it is, you know the drill.

Another clue your missing left one is capacitor is that the far right tan SMD has labelled C196. Check any other tan ones have C's.

Alright, I was starting to give up hope on my windows install but somehow she pulled threw ^.^ (Hirens Boot CD FTW!)

Anyway, here's what I got:
https : //ibb. co/ b0vPE8
very mixed results. also added in the readings I got from putting the probes at either end of the red and blue lines. cant seem get a reading to ground from either of those two (missing one or its closest) but it looks like they might be parallel together on the way up to those test pads for ABXY right above em

Edit: ooh, good call, I'm looking around, everything tan like that visibly labeled starts with a 'c' and the only labeled black ones i can find start with "R". looks like we might be looking at a cap afterall
