Hiyaall

since updating to 4.2E i can't get dvd's to play and can't get avi's to play from

any source, am looking for an alternative (to M PLAYER CE) so I can finish watching 24 season 7

I usually watch from my 4gig usb drive but sometimes put avi files on the ntfs partition of my HDD

Which I also use to run games from (wbfs partition) with wiiFlow.

The M player I'm using is the CE version and it just locks up when I try to load AVI's and doesnt let the dvd mount..

Thanks for any tips, john

GeexBox would be your best alternative...

Honestly, MPlayer_CE is your best bet. I'm a geexbox convert myself, and Mplayer_CE offers far more. Something is obviously wrong with your setup, perhaps try the above post, or reinstalling&configuring the program.

I'm sure it's the USB2.0 Cios I need, but now my head is a little mashed on how to install the hermes cIOS will try though & report back

{Edit}

I went back to start installing stuff, the HBC flashed up a message saying there was an available update, so I gave it a go

then installed new HBC, installed DVDX but never did the boot one.

tried a dvd and bingo, tried my HDD film folder and BINGO again, all working

SO I End up with 4.2e with wiiflow, HBC with Mplayer CE and all works fine and dandy, great stuff.

am going to put a bit of money to one side and donate appropiately.

ALSO got the forwarder to work now, all fine except when I exit - get a slow green screen then 30 seconds later wii restarts... more research to be done!

I think MPlayerCE for FAT32 and GeexBox for NTFS...

Wrong, mplayer supports both formats
I just meant, that those are the particular players I like to use with the corresponding formate...

...but you stated it in a way, as if it was a general rule...

Yeah, I realized that after your indication

As I said before that was what I meant to say.

Still, both player are very good and it is just a matter of preference and as far as I know there is also a GUI for the MPlayerCE in the works, so both player will eventually be replaced by the new one I guess or that`s at least how I think about the mediaplayer-situation

Latest Switch 2 leak says it will have a LCD, not OLED, run most games 40fps max, and only be 1.5 tflops handheld, 3 tflops docked. That's less than the steamdeck at 1.71 handheld, 3.1 docked.

Switch 2 LCD is about like TN type compare to old Nintendo Switch LCD before. Also games running on 40 FPS look not good for us and people. 60 FPS are best for normal everyday gaming. That's weird. I think should not buy Switch 2 because it like Switch 1.5 something like that. Little improve but not major improve. I think going to skip it.

Yea that's just rumored but not sounding that impressive for a next gen upgrade. Of course Nintendo is very good at optimization of their games to play well, but for a $400+ 2025 console I expected a little better. Even a $299 2020 Xbox Series S has 4 tflops.

I thought it was supposed to be on par with an xbox 1 in power, why is it running most things at 40fps lol
  • Anrei @ Anrei:
in terms of power I thought it was a 2.0 compared to the switch man 40fps sounds whack is there poor optimisation or something?
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Just rumors/ leaks. We will find out in a few weeks. But yea prob way underpowered to save battery, for longer playtimes, like Switch 1 is.

Teraflops are not necessarily indicative of real world performance, especially when compared across different architectures. The Switch 2 will also be smaller/lighter than the Steam Deck so it's performance has to fit inside a much smaller thermal and power envelope. Using a 120hz VRR panel means 40 fps locks can be an option in handheld mode, which will be a noticeable upgrade over the current 30 fps standard on Switch 1. Games could also go uncapped and leverage VRR to keep things smooth.

Call me a filthy casual but I really don't notice the difference between the last few generations of consoles, and pushing specs just for the sake of bragging rights is really pointless.

Yea I think the HDR and 60fps+ have been the biggest noticeable improvements, along with faster load times/ ssd hd.
