My collection of games has gone out of control and I need a bigger hard drive to store them all. It needs to be at least 6TB to store everything and still have room for more in the future. Is there a particular brand and model worth buying? Are there any prone to crashing which should be avoided? Ideally one which doesn't need an external power supply. I'm leaning towards a magnetic disk drive because they're cheaper and if handled gently they won't break.

Remember that the bigger the drive, the bigger your loss if it does crash. Have those roms backed up in another drive, if you can afford it. As for the drive brand, I trust Western Digital, and I avoid Seagate, from personal experience.

Forgot to mention... you were talking about nsp files. Be sure to convert them to nsz to save a good amount of space on your storage drive.

I agree with Dust2dust. I always stick with Western Digital for many years never failed on me so far for external hard drives only.

I had Western Digital, few are 500 GBs, 1 TBs, 6 TBs and 18 TBs hard drives. Because I love desktop external hard drives more often over small portable hard drives. What if circuit board or power supply going to bad then I can swap desktop hard drive out and put in my desktop computer later in near future is very easy to access all files there. I recommend desktop external hard drives over portable hard drives means you can take hard drive out small case and put in your desktop computer and you can access all of your files without problems. Easy!

Important about Western Digital external hard drives due to sleep issues on 3.3 voltages only. Don't forget bypass 3.3 voltage, use special tape (not duct tape or normal clear tape) to cover 3.3 voltage pins on hard drive where they take out from external hard drive small case means for sleep mode is one annoy feature need to disable then should able to running if you put in desktop computer to boot up with hard drive from external small case!

Portable hard drive don't have SATA port because company I don't like portable hard drives without external power, something happen if something go bad then we lost files forever! Please avoid portable external hard drives due to SATA are removed is bad idea!

Western Digital is one very solid quality made best hard drives around in the world.

I recommend make two - three copies of backup on two - three of separate external hard drives. If what one go bad later, re-copy again to another new external hard drive then store in box then put in closet or safe vault or totes to keep them safe.
