I had -4100, to fix it I had to change my BITSETTING (booktype) on my dvd writer to DVDROM for DVD+R discs.

[my pioneer DVR-215 didn't actually support setting the bitsetting, so I had to get hacked firmware... but thats a different story]

how did you do this?

I have a wiikey installed on my wii that doesn't work (soldered incorrectly).

I'm getting the -4100 error so could this be due to a bad burn or just the wiikey soldered points being messed with?

imgburn firmware? imgburn is a program.....you sure thats what you mean?

well i cant change the booktype of my dvds from +r to dvd-rom with imgburn so i herd u could get a hacked firmware to do the job

imgburn doesnt support bitsetting for your burner, use nero instead m8

would nero 8 do it automatically or do i need to change the booksetting manually

it could be either, you won't know, cuz even if a chip didnt load backups it could still be sending enough information to cause the error, but its likely it was a bad burn in your case, dont use DVD+R unless you can booktype it DVD-ROM, otherwise use DVD-R, brandname, burn fast....make sure you did the rest of it right, check out this wiki for more info

programs dont determine if you can booktype, if you can't booktype in imgburn you can't booktype in nero, just either switch to DVD-R's instead of +R's or find an upgraded/hacked firmware for your drive. Your firmware lets your device interface with your computer, it has nothing to do with software, and ImgBurn would be able to booktype if your drive firmware could....so you want...

some matshita firmware that will allow you to booktype

make sure you get a firmware that is compatible with your model number, etc., don't recklessly flash your drive with anything, you'll end up burnerless

Sorry for topic bump but I'm also getting the -4100 error.

I have an NTSC Wii, NTSC normal TV, and normal cables.

I've been using DVD-RWs this whole time, and have wasted about 5 now T_T. It seems to set the booktype to DVD-ROM automatically.

I'm burning with ImgBurn, and I've tried 2x, 4x and 16x, all -4100.

Burned a partition.iso of a NTSC No More Heroes.

This is the info of the last one I burned:

HP DVD Writer 1040d EH24 (ATA)

Physical Format Information (Last Recorded):
Book Type: DVD-ROM
Part Version: 0
Disc Size: 120mm
Maximum Read Rate: 2.52Mbps
Number of Layers: 1
Track Path: Parallel Track Path (PTP)
Linear Density: 0.267 um/bit
Track Density: 0.74 um/track
First Physical Sector of Data Area: 0
Last Physical Sector of Data Area: 0
Last Physical Sector in Layer 0: 0

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

could just be the use of RW media, and I think you mean +RW, not -RW, - media can't booktype.
burning fast is good if the media supports it do 12x or 16x
switch to -R or +R booktyped, and dont bother if you are chipped.

good to know, tell us what media you tested?

doesnt really matter what media he used, its chipped so it wont work.

on the wiki, we like to confirm chip incompatibility with both + and - media.
incomplete conclusions arent nearly as useful as complete ones.

No, I mean -RW, that's what it says on the disc, I know there's a difference. But now you guys tell me that - media can't booktype at all?!! That's real good to know before I burn through FIVE discs!!

You guys should really put in a FAQ or something that people shouldn't use - media then. Save people some time and money. Wouldn't that mean that -R's wouldn't work either (being -R media and all)?

BTW, I'm not chipped, I'm Twilight Hack'd.

So I have to go out and buy some +R's in order for this to work then ...

Also, how would I go about switching my drive's booktype? I have an HP burner (listed at the top of the page), and it's not listed in the ImgBurn list of manufacturers.

you misunderstand
we have a wiki that says it doesn't need booktyping:
http://maschell.de/mediawiki-1.6.10/index.php/Main_Page

AND you can use - (minus) media, it can't booktype and so obviously you wouldn't need to do so

verbatim DVD-R's are actually the most successful reports.

you only need to booktype + media, but both + and - work,
just don't use RW homie.

I don't believe HP is the actual manufacturer of your drive, itll tell you via its drivename in ImgBurn, it is probably a TSSTCorp, also known as Samsung

I will share my story with you guys.

I tried to burn Wii Play PAL on 3 types of media :

-Maxell DVD+R Booktype : DVD-ROM
-Memorex DVD-RW
-Sony DVD-R 16x

The Sony ones should have worked but I still had the -4100 error so after a lot of research I realised there was a firmware update available for my burner and, you probably know what happened next, after flashing it my backups worked flawlessely with my Sony media at 8x.

Some burners won't even work even if you have the latest firmware so if you are certain that you burn the game correctly on a good media and it still doesn't work, well, that's probably your problem.

Maybe we should list all burners that do work so people will have less trouble knowing which ones are good and which ones aren't.

Mine is :

-LG GSA-4167B
-Firmware version : DL13

EDIT: I also discovered that burning at 4x would result in a bad burn for me, 8x works.
