Hacking Let's hack the DSi

To get back on track - The only things I'll like would be

Homebrew to show up on DSi 'channel' screen (the one with DSiWare / Camera / Sound icons) - I REALLy would like a shortcut to toggle Wireless without having to having to go through the DSi options

Homebrew on SD card &/or Flashcard that allows access to DSi Camera

Hack to allow 'normal' photos on SDcard to show up on DSi screen

Well a homebrew channel would be nice and we would just have to work around that once we know how the DSi works.

What I'd really like is running .nds (and .dsi when some good games come out) files from the SD card

that would be awesome

but if we have a .dsi file it wouldn't be readable on the DSi, unless it's installed with something like the WAD manager... DSI Manager? Lol...

What brought that up?
My experiment of M.H.C.C on my SD card?

Like I said, that was an experiment, I honestly didn't expect it to work

i have been hearing that in order to get the ds ware that you download from the internet and when you try to put it on your dsi from the sd card it says cannot be copied a i've heard that you need something called and m-code to get the games to work

Its not that easy, you'd need the common key just to get a download ticket for the download just to get it to copy.
I have downloaded a DSiWare game on computer and put it on my SD card and it did recognise it was there which might mean something.

We still haven't fully figured out how the DSi in itself works

So, since the DSi can't run old flashcards or DSi mode, I thought having a list of possibilities might give the hackers some ideas.

First a brief explanation of the different modes (so we don't get completely off the wall ideas):
DSi mode will let you access the cameras, ram, and any other DSi addons that were not in the original DS lite/phat.
This seems to be very similar to GBA mode.
Hence: You couldn't have GBA emulators (not to mention you wouldn't have the cart's hardware) and you can't run DSiWare from a current flash card.

So here are some of my ideas and I would ask that anyone clever enough to think some up should post them.
Most ideas will be contradictive. Let others clarify why it would or wouldn't work. If there are ideas that aren't contradictive then we may be on to something.

Running older flashcards:

Idea:
Using wifime for sending some type of loader to bypass security and boot slot1.

Objection:
RSA (or whatever the hell the ds uses) has been updated since DS lite came out so wifime probably won't work anymore

Objection:
Maybe we could slip past RSA by injecting the loader into a XXXX - DS Download Play Dump. However, it would require having a second ds.

Idea:
Make a new passme but let it boot slot1 instead of slot2 (since none exsists).

Running in DSi Mode:

Idea:
Finding a buffer overflow in the System Menu or Opera Browser.
Or trying a PSP tactic and modding the DSi's battery.

Objection:
I highly doubt the PSP idea will work but it was worth listing for brainstorming's sake.

Idea:
Swapping out the cards quickly while still at the DSi's menu (this might also work for old flashcards)
This has been used across various consoles (regionfree gamecube games on the wii, ps1 backups after using a legit disc, ps2 swapmagic)

Objection: Easily fixable with a firmware update, like the rest of them.

There's my ideas, how about yours?

I'm calling b.s. on that site. Basically all they tell you is to copy a bin onto your sd card and run it, which won't work unless you've already bought the game and have the tickets.
Also I think that bin files aren't the same dumps as the dsi releases.
They're like bin files on the Wii, which aren't used for VC and WiiWare piracy. Wads are.
I think it need to have it's packets sniffed for it to be a correct dump.
Maybe doing a hex comparison between the two might show something interesting.

I'll try to stay with this as much as I can but I can't do much right now because I'm on vacation.

Thanks for everyone's help so far.

Edit: Looks like Twiizers beat us to it XD.

People stop trying to find a way to copy bins over and make them work. Also stop trying to open the .bin files, seriously it will get you no where. 1 to even share DSiWare you would have to do what you do with the wii which is instead of copying the game you copy the installer and install it. I don't even think they've found a way to copy games over from wii to wii even if each wii is softmii'd! Further more opening a DSiWare title with notepad and magiciso and crap like that will not give you the common key.

Forget it!

Unless you have an idea that doesn't pertain to opening/copying the .bin files (unless it's something like bannerbomb, but that's an exception) you shouldn't post here and just leave the exploiting to the real hackers!

Could we run old flashcarts if we took a file that wrote the old FW to ram (It was a very small filesize), told you to take the card out and put the old cart in, then press start, it would boot the FW from ram and the cart would be in the ds slot. The gba slot would be empty, some nds games checked it to see if their was a game in it, and they work fine.

Chao that's a good idea and that's sorta what a passme, except it's alot easier. It's like the action replay cartridges you put your flashcart on top of the passme and you put the passme in the DS. It would probably be easier for someone to just make a passmi (which is currently being worked on I think).
