so i'm running a softmodded wii v. 4.2 and purchased a legit copy of monster hunter today
it tells me i must update to run it from the disc channel - what does this update do?
and also from any backup loader it freezes when i try to start a new game
what do i need to do in order to get this game running without losing my homebrew channel/mods?

i know there are topics like this, but reading through them was a mess of information, i'm hoping i can get something more straight forward to help out

thanks!

Disable updates with Startpatch or any update disabler for security to play with the legit game. Then for the backup, reinstall cIOS249, but when it asks you on which IOS it will be based, choose IOS37

Just FYI, the game only has 4.1 on it. However, it also has boot2v4(Same update as NSMBW).

whats boot2v4 please

Get StartPatch (http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Startpatch)
Put it in SD:\apps\startpatch

Run it via the Homebrew Channel and apply the following hack:
Block Disc Updates - Blocks updates which have been embedded in Discs.

If you want you can also apply these:
Block Online Updates - Prevents online updates being installed.
Force WiFi Connection Test Error - thus preventing the system update that is offered at the WiFi connection test from occuring.

The rest is up to yourself. I did this myself so I could play my original legit NSMBWii

How exactly do I install the hacks? When I press A, it says "The patches cannot be found in the DOL section. Nothing to do."

Priiloader works really well too and I like it a lot. In fact, I installed it just for this occasion as I knew that Monster Hunter Tri would be the one game that would give me trouble. Priiloader is really easy to use as well.
